Strange sound from drivetrain, with video

I have a 2001 legacy l 5 speed, it has been making this sound for a while now which you can hear in the video. I jacked the car up and it sounded like its coming from the driveshaft. Has anyone heard it before? The sound gets worse the faster you drive and it doesn't change any whether it's in gear/ in neutral/ clutch in. It shifts into all the gears fine and it doesn't seem like the clutch is slipping. The only time it changes slightly is when you are in gear and let off the gas, it gets a little louder.

Going to jack it up again today and see if there's play in the drive shaft but I don't know much about that.

There are a few sounds going on there... what second mark would you say represents the sound you are questioning?

Are you talking about the sound at the very end of the clip? The one that sounds like it is winding down as the video ends?

Just be be clear... this sound only happens when the wheels are moving correct?

Meaning that video was shot with the car up on jack stands and the wheels were spinning?

It does not make this sound if it is up on jack stands in neutral (wheels not spinning but the engine reving) but WILL make this sound if you are rolling and in neutral. Correct?

No check engine lights?

Yes, the winding. i know one of the calipers is making some noise too. It is up on jack stands, no cel and only makes the sound when the wheels are moving

Check bearings on all of the wheels. With it up on the jackstands grab the tire at 12 oclock and 6 oclock and pushing in and out twoares the car. You are checking for any play at all.

Then do the same at 3 oclock and 9 oclock.

From the video it sounds like rotor/caliper noise.

A bad bearing would cause some rotor/caliper noise if I am not mistaken.

Have you tagged a curb or bad pothole in recent memory? How long as it been since the last brake job?

Got it over to the local Subaru mechanic today, it's the transmission.

He said it's the differential going

if it's the output shaft bearing that can be replaced without removal of the entire tranny.

And your car has 3 differentials, so i'd be asking a whole lot more questions than you are.

Yeah he put it up on lift, looked at everything underneath, drove it and said it's the differential making that sound and it would need a new tranny

#26 in the first parts breakdown is what I would call the output shaft bearing.
