spark plugs 2007 impreza

Hi i do not want to get on nasioc. i need to replace the spark plugs in my brothers 2007 impreza 2.5i N/A. I need to know what i need to get to get this done so he can get the emissions testing done since he has a cylinder 1 misfire. any help would be appricated.

So are you asking...? What type of plugs, or what tools and how?

I havent done it on an 07 impreza but I have done it on my 99 legacy, 04 Impreza WRX and the 06 Forester XT.

The 07 legacy N/A should have plenty of room compared to the turbo ones I have done.

Basically you will need to remove:

Battery from drivers side
Air filter box from passanger side along with the tube that connects it to the air box above the throttle body and the curved air intake just behind the hood prop that is attached by one bolt.


With those out of the way, you should be able to just pull the plug wires out of each spark plug hole. Then slip your spark plug socket down in the hole on top of the spark plug. Then put a short extension into the spark plug hole and connect it to the spark plug socket.

There should be JUST enough of the extension sticking out of the spark plug hole to attach a socket wrench to it. I use either a socket wrench with a pivoting head or a really small "micro" socket wrench.

Once you start to loosen it you can remove the socket wrench and back out the spark plug by hand with the extension.

You might need to remove the extension from the spark plug hole and then take the socket out with the spark plug inside of it.

well got the cylinder 1 spark plug out and there is oil around the spark plug. the motor oil smells like exhaust and the head gaskets and the others were done about 1,500 miles ago and they are felpro brand that are blue. the motor was not cleaned off and the engine compartment is still dirty, and the oil looks darker that it should be. a friend of my families is a Acura tech that did the work at his house. he supposedly did the timing belt too, but idk about his work. so the car will sit until my brother who was supposed to drive it back to California today and pay to get it fixed right.

It's probably just blowby from the piston rings. A common Subaru "issue" that usually isn't something to worry about. Likely the misfire was from the plugs getting fouled.

could that be caused by high oil levels?

Possibly, if oil pressure is too high. More common with high oil levels is leaking external seals/gaskets.

The spark plug tube seals under the head cover are leaking allowing for the crankcase pressure to push oil into the tube. Could be the one seal slipped when he put the cover on, but Fel Pro valve cover seals don't fit the Subarus proper and tend to leak anyway.
