Whats up everybody, Im new to the Subaru scene. My other car is a 1995 BMW M3. I just purchased my Legacy yesterday, it has a couple of dings here and there but otherwise its in pretty good condition. The drivetrain has 102200 miles on it. I would like to start doing some preventive maintenance on it like fluids, filters, plugs, pads, belts, etc. Any help from other members would greatly be appreciated.

What plugs work good on these cars?
What gear fluids do you recommend? Royal Purple??
What about tranny fluid for auto's?
Write ups on how 2 change belts (not timing belt)?
Any things to look out for?
Issues to be aware of?

I also what to change my right fender and front bumper, any good places to buy aftermarket body parts? Do vendors sell the GT bumper for my car?

Again thanks in advance, I look forward to being an active member.

NGK plugs all the way. Any of them. From the cheapies to the expensive will make the motor happy.

Belts? Loosen up the two bolts that hold the alternator in place, then there is a vertical screw that goes down in front of the alternator, which adjusts tension. For the AC belt, loosen the idler pulley, and again, a vertical screw adjusts tension. Put new belts on, tighten up.

I also would say headgaskets are the major concern. Other than that, Subies are pretty tough.

You shouldnt have to worry about the headgasket on your car though, since its a 2.2L engine.

thanks for the reponses so far....keep them coming. I just did the belts, plugs, and oil today. Its running better already. I went to check the timing belt and I cracked two sections of the rear cover due to rusted nuts. I even applied WD40 to them before I attemted removal.

Avoid Royal Purple fluids. They seem to have a bad rep on Subie trannys, for some reason or another. Redline is great stuff, apparently Pennzoil Synchromesh is another good formula, but I've heard less good publicity for them.
