tap tap tap in the dash?

so i was driving with the heater on (level 3) and all of a sudden a loud constant tap every second starts in side my dash.... Im like WTF? And its right behind the top air vents in the center...

What causing that noise?

What causing that noise?maybe Stuart Little is in there floating around at that higher speed lol. Does the sound start at speed 3? Can u hear it on speed 4? Could be some debris in the vent caught and is tapping. Could also be the wheel (fan blade looks a lot like a hamster wheel) on the blower motor is unbalanced

Well when i heard the tap i turned it off... And it still went on for a few seconds... Like 30sec

Also noticed the lil green lights going abit crazy. I was like wow the lights acually turn on!!! lol noise went away so did my lil green lights... Back to normal lol

Everthing ells is normal, so i dont think its the ecu... Are the dash lights where the heat/ac and the options on how the fan blows (like the head or head and feet or just feet) are supose to be on while the head lights are on?

Yea that's a scary sound I've not a clue wth it is.
The only thing that comes to mind is ur heater motor wheel is unbalanced and ur hearing the echoes of it thru ur ducts

It still did it, but the lil green lights turn on with some pressure (that was at night while i had the heater on) and off like usual. Arnt they suposed to be on when my parking lights are on?

The green should turn on no matter what. The. There's the instrumental light that turns on with the parks or headlights on

That's a good question I'm gonna say yes but don't hold me too it. And I'm saying yes because how else would u know what setting to put it in when its 3am and ur on the highway and need the defog. Obviously being the owner u would know exactly where it is but what if someone unknowledged of the car needs to do this.

The buttons, dial, and temp slider should be illuminated with your parking or headlights on. Under each button there is a green light (Orange under the defrost button) that should turn on when the button is pressed.

Here is a video of mine lit up. It has red LEDs in it, the old bulbs were dead when I got the car.

My HVAC makes a tap/clunk noise once as it switches from one vent setting to another. Maybe there's an obstruction that is keeping yours from changing correctly, so it keeps trying and keeps making the noise... but if the lights and the tapping both act up at the same time, I'd bet the climate control fried itself and is letting you know by acting possessed :lol:

And yeah its not that.... Ive switched it back and foward and i can hear the flap/tap as i do it, while at the same time that haunting possesed tap does it job lol

To be honest the only way to actually figure out the problem is start ripping the dash out and find the source rather than second guessing what the cause may be. U never know u just might find Toshio from the movie grudge tapping on it duct lol

I saw this thread a little late but I was going to say that I have heard this exact noise from a recirc/fresh blend door motor on a ford once. I would guess that it is one of the blend door motors.

And its the motor that flips a flap in the ducks to send air up or down to your feet. When i press head and feet = turns it half way.. When i press feet = it closes the duck... But as soon i press the head option it turn and gets stuck half way... And Starts the tapping noise.

And my lights are out... 3 of them, where do i get replacements? Autozone dont have any.

Legacy hit it right in the head. It's the blend door acuator fairly easy to replace since u have everything out
