Interesting parking lot repairs

What are some of your interesting parking lot repairs? Today was probobly my most interesting one. Got stranded due to fuel pump fail. Luckily I was within walking distance of a harbor freight and tools and a auto parts store. Had some very intersting looks and a women took a few cell phone pics ha ha.

Hahahahahaha Ended up replacing a perfectly good starter in the Legacy because I left the shifter half way between P and R in the parting lot of the mortgage company I work for.

Had about 4 of the big wigs walk over to me on the way to their Mercedes, Audi, Range Rover to ask if I needed a tow truck.

They were shocked when I was like "Oh I really appreciate the concern but this isn't anything that I cant fix myself." HAHA

I dont have pix but at the parking lot in Walmart I replaced my valve cover gasket that finally have out on my old 92 celica (back like 5-6years ago) I had no money or tools so I had to "borrow" some from wallie's tool section lol. All in all it got done in a few minutes and everything was up in running again. But it's funny how when the hood is open ppl state and gawk at u like "wtf is wrong with this guy? Just take it to a shop"

Pffft, bunch of noobs. Get a mk3 supra and you can know the joy of having to fix everything under the sun while stranded in a parking lot. :lol:

With my 86.5-92 supras, all separate occasions, never the same parking lot, stores never open:

90° hose off the tstat housing
Heater hose behind the block, aka "suicide hose"
Turbo coolant line
Turbo oil feed line
The whole damn turbo, sucked something into my 60-1 CT26 at the top of 4th gear while spanking an Evo
ANOTHER turbo when I blew it at the drag strip. Set the stock turbo record at that time, though :grin:
Radiator
Fan clutch
Oil cooler line, damn near pissed all my oil out less than 50 miles after a $3000 build
Stock IC hose
A coupler blew off a few times with the Spearco FMIC + hardpipes
Had one coupler split open
Fuel pump with a full tank of gas (have to drop the tank on MK3 supras)
ECU
Starter not once, but three times. Any toyota guy knows how much of a pain that is.
Relays, melted harness, any wiring problem you can imagine... o2 sensor wire melting on the turbine housing and popping the EFI fuse, things like that.

I only towed a supra home once... otherwise I had one of the local Supra dudes bring me the part and I fixed it in the parking lot.
There were a couple times where I slept in the car until stores opened.

Damn Thom seems like ur surpras hate u lol but luckily and thankfully I never ran into any serious issues when I'm on the road. Usually the car dies in my driveway. When I was driving home from a friends house on the highway my z32 (non turbo 2 seater) alt belt snapped and smacked the upper rad hose so hard it broke the hose clamp and the hose slipped off the rad. I was about 5 miles from home at 3am and all I knew at the time was all the lights in my dash came on. By the stroke of the car gods I arrived home and my car was smoking more than a hookah party. Left it like that until morning and discovered the problem.

Brad (Red85celica) and I picked up a 85 (or 84, cant remember) Supra a few years ago. It was a friend of mine and Brad was going to buy it anyway, but the water pump went out about 40-50 miles from my house at a supermarket parking lot, in the dead of winter, at night. My friend with the car called me and I called Brad. I got the tools and we picked up a water pump on the way. The price of the car was cut in half if we could get it home that night. I think we paid like $300 for it. I got the wheels for my Corolla. haha

To this day I still give Brad crap for this. That night I was home with the flu, and when I mean sick, I mean I had been vomiting that night. Brad just started school for mechanics and didnt know too much so I did most of the work and drove the Supra home. We got some flashlights from the dollar store and got it done. 2nd gear was blown and the trans sounded like and F-14 from having no trans fluid. haha

Come to think about it, this had to be in like 2002. I had my dark blue S13 at the time.

I have had so many on the side of the road fixes I lost count. My 67 Chevy, 66 Volvo, 70 Volvo, 83 Celica, 84 Toyota 4x4, a number of 240SX's, my dads Datsun truck, and a number of other cars and friends cars. Good times! haha... Still remember driving my 83 Celica home with a blown rear diff... almost 150 miles! Drove my Yota Crawler about 75 miles with a blown trans, only had 4th (with 36" tires...).

Haha I managed to drive my 88 supra home 35 miles with a blown head gasket and terrible rod knock when I bought it... like midget with a sledgehammer in the block bad. I had a built 7mgte waiting for it in the garage, so I didnt really care.

Wow!! Talk about a nightmare. At a certain point I would put a free sing on the car and walk away. I hate when care break down on you in the worst convinent times. I was telling dead yesterday that if I had a sawzal id cut a hole in the bed right above the fuel pump ha ha. I had to strugle with everything I did because the truck was so rusty. But now looks like I was eating cake compared to thomis ha ha ha

Me too. When I broke a CV joint, I was able to limp the car to a mechanic. It was ugly, but it got there.

I keep an 8mm socket and hand driver in my center console for the million hose clamps in my engine bay. That's all I'm gonna say.

worst I had was my alternator bolt snapped. Nothing some rope and a strut bar couldn't handle

Mine were spread over half a dozen supras, and none were stock... so it wasnt really all that bad. Cant expect a car putting out double the stock power to be totally reliable. Those cars are the reason I do so much preventative maintenance now hah

ha I've had to rig up a broken exhaust back to my car with some metal twine cable that I was able to get from the in walking distance Walmart i was near. I hit a huge pot hole on the way out of a parking lot in my first Honda and it was deep enough that the ground hit and broke the fresh weld that had just been done to fix it and therefore was dragging, so i went back into the parking lot of the Chinese restaurant i was at slowly, parked and started walking to walmart to get the metal wire to rig it back up with. (it broke after the flex joint)
