I'm not really sure how to get to it since I last took it off when I had the motor out.. but anyways I need to clean the pipe and was wondering if any of you had any ideas on how to get the lower part of the pipe off the head while the motor is still in? It's hardly any room to swing my wrench.

Very slowly. It was a PITA with everything pulled out of there... you could try a wrench with a 90 degree head if nothing else works.

I never had a problem with a 17mm wrench. If its not seized, it only takes a couple of turn and then you'll be able to loosen with your fingers. It does take awhile though

I still have this code in my BD... I have ripped apart and rebuilt my EGR system about 3 times, and replaced a number of parts and the bastard still comes back.
The big pipe will take a 17mm like all the guys said... I would also replace the small one. I just got one from Subaru, they are not that expensive. Also Clean the EGR valve...
I was going to go get a 17mm wrench from Sears and cut it down because I work on Subaru's so much. Even my stubby Gearwrench is too big... errr....

I have a 17 mm flare wrench.. the top pipe head is pretty much almost rounded off so I need to use vice grips on it.. The top is the hardest.. I was never able to get it off when I had the motor out for the head gaskets but the pipe to the head was super easy to remove.. but then again I was removing it when it was out of the car..
My wrench very little room to swing the wrench, I might remove the driver side tire and use my torch on the top of the pipe and throw some kroil on it to see if that frees it up, I've never seen something so hard to remove but the lower one on a hotter metal part is easy to get off...

Check you cruise control cable on the TB.

Check it for what? I use my cruise all the time and it works fine. Not over tight, not super lose.

My CC cable was keeping the TB open.

Pipe leading to the underside of the BPT was clogged, the EGR pipe to the head was clear.
While it was out I put some stuff on it to prevent it from being almost un-removeable.
