This just popped up on the way home from the store. The car drove 100% ok to the store, but on the way home, I was getting severe hesitation (It felt like the car was only running on 2 cylinders, or more like a lawnmower). It'd run fine if I was cruising or accelerated at a crawl, but any further and it'd stutter, spit, pop, you name it. Honestly this is an interesting problem, and the only 2 things I can think of is either that aftermarket cam sensor is on it's way out...Or my fuel filter is clogged (Yes, I know I should have replaced it with the last oil change...The filter has 20k miles on it now.)....Anyone have any extra suggestions as to what I should peek at in the engine?

EDIT: Okay, I replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the MAF, and checked the cam and crank position sensors, everything there checks out. This has me completely baffled.

1995 Subaru Legacy L, EJ22E, 4EAT trans. I found the problem. One of the spark plug tube seals was missing and water got down into the tube, grounded the plug. After wiping the water up the problem went away, went up to auto zone and got a new set of gaskets and tube seals, and new plugs. Problem solved, problem staying solved :D

Was going to suggest that! Common issue for the wires to get oil soaked and cause a nasty hesitation under load.
