Anyone else get rust inside like this? I know It's an 02' but what the sheeeet?!?!?!
Removed my carpet to dye it because of rust spots. Don't see how it gets in. There's spots in the middle too....

If the carpet gets wet enough to soak into the sound deadening, it just holds the moisture against the floor metal and rusts. It could have been spilled coffee or cola or something which would explain a brown stain on the carpet.

Not only in that spot though. There's plenty more than that one. IDK just curious. Thanks for the response!

A prior owner could have left the windows and/or sunroof open during rain, or perhaps this is flooding or this car took a trip into a body of water.. All guesses of course.

I did question the dealer I got it from about the possibility of it being in a flood..... Where would be another place to check if it sat in flood water?

You could check Carfax or something like that, but that would only show water damage if it was reported to an insurance company or dmv.

Carfax came up clean when I bought it. Ive just never seen rust on the inside like this in any car. I will pose more pics of it. It's starting to bother me. I wonder if anyone else has seen it in these spots.

That car got some salt water inside a long time ago! Rain water can do that, but it would have to be a lot of it and have been sitting for a long time. So I'm thinking ether a bad day at the beach or some how a lot of salty snow made it in.

Any way that I can stop it before it gets really bad?
Anybody ever replace the fuel release lever before? Is it possible?

If the rust isn't too bad you can try painting it with POR15, I have heard good stuff about it.

Here's the kicker. Where the majority of the rust is, there's a hole cut out in the carpet like someone parked it on a hill and drained it with a vacuum. Trying not to get worked up but also noticed that rust spots were heavier on one edge of support beams(or whatever they are).
Am I going crazy?!?!? Any thoughts? I just bought some H+R's and KYB's and tore out the insides to re due it... :smt013

Average subie rust from salt in NY. I know subies rust on the outside and run great for a long time. I may have some pics of the underside. I was told that it spent most of its life in VA.. I really dont want to spent money on it trying to find out if there's been a title wash. Carfax isnt accurate anymore either. To find out the exacts on it would cost me over a hundred bucks. It's a gamble if I do it that way.
Just worried if I invest my money and time then something electrical goes wrong and botches the whole thing.. Have a horrible feeling its been in a flood... But it runs fine....for now :-?
