View Full Version : Contemplating parting out or sellling my BG

So after months of outright neglecting her, it looks like at least one of the brake hard lines in the rear has rusted out.

I could fix it, but the rust hole in the rear wheel well seems to be growing by the day, and the interior has always had a slightly musty smell to it. I think I just want to pass her on and pick up a new project car.. perhaps a BH with a blown head gasket to rebuild and tinker with, but that means giving up the BG in one way or another. The more I think about it, the more I want to pass her on to someone who will give her more love an attention than I have in the last year.

I recently had the head gaskets, timing belt, water pump, and front end seals replaced. I also had the transmission replaced as I had lost reverse gear a bit ago.. otherwise the car is dead stock.

I suppose if I were to sell it outright, I would fix the blown out hardline and patch up the hole so that the car was at least drivable and presentable.. but if I were to part her out, I would just do it as it is.

I guess I am just looking for some input..

What would you want for it, as-is?
also, I'm too lazy to go look, what motor/trans does it have?

It is an EJ25D with the Automatic. The 1996 EJ25D was a unique one that has a bit higher compression and different (better) head gaskets. I got just shy of 200k out of the original head gaskets, and expect the new ones to take the engine another 200k.

Here is the VIN plate with the engine and transmission details:

I am not really sure what I would want for it as a whole. I guess I would need to look around to see what it is worth. I know that the car cost me $2700, the head gasket job was $1200, and the transmission was another $1300. Overall the car is in decent shape with the exception of a 3" hole in the rear drivers side wheel well from rust, and the rotted out rear passenger side brake hard line.

Actually.. I am assuming the shop replaced the transmission with the exact same one.. I guess I will have to check to see if there is a different transmission type in it when I get home.

FWIW, those rust holes do take some time to develop. My BK already had rust in the quarterpanel when I got it and I drove it for 8 years. It's still running today, although the rust is pretty bad now.

Well, I think I have convinced myself to just sell her off, and buy a BH. I picked up the parts and tools on friday to fix the rear brakes and get her road-worthy again.

The rust hole was there when I got the car which has been a few years now.. It has grown to about 3" wide now from the 1 1/2" that it started off at.

KBB.com lists this car at $2700 for "Fair Condition" which is higher than I expected, so I think that the $1750 I was thinking of is a fair price considering the overall condition.

Well, I decided to go for it. I decided to drop the price a bit and I put her up for sale here:

heh, I found one locally with front end damage for cheap.. luckily, I have all of the front end parts from my BE.. All I should end up needing is a radiator and probably an AC condenser.
