torque (obd II)

Anybody ever use the torque pro app with a Bluetooth obd2 scanner? Just started using mine today with the elm 327 mini and it works amazing. Found out I have p0420 and p0440 thrown. It even says what the problem is I'm just on my tablet and don't wanna type it all. Total cost $18 for the app and scanner.

I also got the usb Bluetooth one in my kit. Still haven't used that part, but I plan to test that out as well.

I'm using the elm 327 mini which is Bluetooth. One complaint. In my Impreza the obd2 port is surrounded by the plastic dash which the mini fits perfectly in causing it to be stuck in there now lol. My girl wants one so I'll give her the mini and order the regular 327 so I can remove it

Warning! These Bluetooth device will NOT work with Apple products. If use Apple products, get WIFI OBD2 like PLX Kiwi. One good reason I never own a overpriced product.

Also, Torque isnt available for Windows Phones yet. You have to use Dash and it costs like $6

Only dying Nokia phone uses Windows OS very late in smart phone world, I'm afraid Android and Apple OS might kill Windows and its app dies too. If I were a developer, I'd not waste my time with Windows app.

Just used the torque app to drive the overheating outback home. 255 degrees on the drive home... ouch. Lol. I bought the elm327 on ebay and have used the torque app on HTC and Samsung phones. Works awesome. Love my Galaxy Note 2.

Torque SW will work for Apple iOS and Android. The only issue is the ELM with generic Bluetooth protocol, Apple uses proprietary bluetooth protocol so won't work on ELM hardware unless you have to jailbreak and install another SW to run. Too much trouble, however if you use iOS you should use Wifi hardware such as PLX Kiwi will work with Torque SW.

I just got this Elm327 Mini and tried it with Torque Lite, works decent, but not too many sensors to read. Nice seeing the Coolant Temp and GPS based Speed. Does the Pro version give you that much more? I need a new phone, so when I get one, I am likely going to used this one as a dedicated music drive and a screen for Torque Pro!

Sensors count depends on your car ECU SW and actual sensors, I plugged ELM into my newer 09 Honda Fit it read out many more sensors than my 2000 RS and 95 Legacy (Yes, this year has OBD2.)

On your 95 can you air/fuel, mpg and some of the fancy tuning stuff or just basics?

I bought Torque Pro so I get everything, too many to list here. Such as vacuum, iat temp, o2 voltage and graphs, coolant temp, AFR, MAP, MAF, volume efficiency, boost, and many more. Lite version might have less options. Only $5, you can't be that frugal.

I am replacing my current droid soon, so if I get more function for $5 I'm probably turning this one into a dedicated vehicle unit, for music and engine monitoring. I just didnt want to buy it if the limitation was my ecu! Thanks for the help!

Some limitations are your ECU, you won't see O2 bank 2 sensor 1 or 2 since our car don't have them. That just an example.

That reading is for coolant temp which may be spiked due to exhaust gas getting into the cooling system. Just because it reads that high it doesnt necessarily mean that the coolant is actually that temp. I drove another outback till it was the same temp. Cyl heads were fine, no major machining needed. It just depends. Not something I recommend doing but......it doesnt always equal death. These older ej motors are pretty tough....headgasket issue aside.
