Its really thick, on the surface. Then on the sides, front by the legs in the back seat for example, is soft; leather like. Was this the leather? or Vinyl?

Half leather, half vinyl. All Subaru's are like that... What you sit on is leather, the sides and what not, are not leather.

Never realized they have an outback imprinted on the rear seats. wonder if the GT leather was the same

^ Nope... Some got embroidered seats in the GT, but I have never seen "branded" GT seats. Only OB...

Seems like the opposite of what you're saying. The seating surface is thick and hard, vinyl like.

Yours might be, but I know mine are super nice and comfy in my 98 GT...
