Hey everyone,

Some of you have known I've been looking for a BE for about 2 years now (basically since I sold my BD). Anyways I found one finally in NYC that seems decent. I was wondering if anyone is near there and can inform me about how the roads are in the summer and winter. Having been from the midwest and now living in Alaska I have no idea what the conditions of the roads are there.

I ask because the roads are terrible here in AK and most cars are chipped all over from the use of gravel here instead of salt. I'm not in favor of getting a BE from north of the rust belt, but maybe NYC doesn't salt like they did in the UP and Wisco where I'm from.

Anyone want to fill me in? Or maybe take a look at it and see if it's 100% clean. Its taken me 2 years, because I want one that's mint and I'm alright spending the extra coin since it'll be my money pit car.

NYC is within the "Rust Belt" so they do salt the roads in the winter. Otherwise, if it has always been within the city, there may be some suspension damage from potholes and whatnot. The city is so busy that the city does not have the luxury of closing off sections to fix them often enough.

Here's the CL posting anyways...seems decently priced, considering here they're over 7k for a nice one :/ if one shows up for sale for more than a day.

nyc proper has some of the shittiest roads on the planet. I know everyone thinks the place they live has some bad roads, but I'm talking about potholes that can swallow your whole tire, whoops that will compress your suspension to the bumpstops, unpaved roads during construction, metals plates that can flatten your tire or gouge your wheel, etc. Even my family from SE asia are suprised how bad the roads are here. Suspensions, tires, and wheels are the first to go on a car that is exclusively driven in the city proper. Also, lots of stop and go driving so brake pads and rotors wear out about twice as fast (our minivan has needed pads every 20k miles since its primarily driven in the city.) Winters haven't been as bad save for the blizzard every 4-5 years that shuts the city down, but they do salt pretty aggressively but the frequency is few and far in between. Also ask if its parked on the street or garaged - we're all assholes when it comes to street parking, and will sometimes/often nudge the car in front and back when parallel parking.

like Ben said roads are crap so is traffic, I have one rule when buying a car not anywhere within 50+ miles of the city. City car 110k miles equates to almost double milage of the same car in suburbs. Suspension, brakes tranny and bodywork all get abused on regular basis.

it looks pretty straight for a city car in new york state. I live over in onondaga county and the "Central New York Rust" is really where the rusty cars in new york are. think about it this way its a city car so they take a beating on the clear coat if its been taken care of it should be a good car to buy. NYC uses salt but the rust on both of my subarus wasnt much because they come factory under coated. Basically if its been taken care of which it looks like it has you will be fine. ITs a nice car :)
