98 Legacy GT 2.5 parts

Alright so to start I have no idea where I should put this thread, but anyways so currently, I am trying to drop in a new cold air intake and exhaust, at least for now. and i cant seem to find anything really compatible. I found a really sweet injen intake but it says it is for a 2.5 sti, im no expert on this kinda stuff as this is my first car. but seeing as how most suby engines are similar, are there certain newer subys that i can use to find a exhaust/ intake. i was trying to eye-ball it with an sti and it really doesnt look to different, please help.

Welcome dude! While Subarus are indeed legos, the older ones really don't have much in the way of directly compatible. The majority of things like exhaust and intakes are custom or retrofitted.

Weapon R makes a nice and proven intake while there are plenty of ways to just create an aftermarket exhaust system.

well exhausts im not too worried one of my brothers makes exhausts, but intakes i was told that weapon r is actually not as good.

Hmm, I have no personal experience with the intake - I've just seen a lot of guys on here use it.

Personally, I swapped out my 97's air box thing for an older, tube style intake and I seriously felt and heard a difference. With these engines, the intake isn't so much the key as exhaust and really, head work is.

by tube style, what exactly are we talking about?

oh alright, i get it. no i just ordered a weapon r intake, and for installing it the box that says subaru on it right above the engine, is that necessary to be on their when i put the cold air intake on?

The Plenum is not necessary.

The MAF sensor is. That's the block section with the wiring harness plugged into it.

You'll also need all of the vacuum lines hooked up properly, especially the large one, as that's what keeps your car at idlewhen the throttle is closed.

Oh yeah that i know, i just dropped in the new cold air yesterday, runs great!
