Does anyone know where to get the wood trim that goes around the vents and HVAC unit on a 2nd generation legacy? (98 in particular)

I've seen a few in non USDM vehicles but I'm not sure if it was ever available in the US market. I have wood trim surrounding the radio but not surrounding the vents like you see here

yes. that trim piece was available on 99 outback limiteds?

japanese subarus got it too but most japanese woodgrain is a darker style so it doesnt match usdm woodgrain

they pop up on ebay once in a blue moon. average asking price is usually 30 - 60$

check junkyards, pick n pulls, and craigslist sometimes those yield results at a cheaper price

there was one for sale on seattle craigslist like a week ago

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info.

In case someone else is interested, I contacted a distributor and they said Subaru sold them wholesale to dealerships at $156.93 but it's no longer available new. Sounds like junk yards, ebay and craigslist is the only place to get them now.

they came factory on 1999 Outback Limited's, but were also an option, but only in 99.

I have sold a number of these sets on the forum. I just sold my last one to my buddy, but I'm always on a look out for them. Expect to pay about $40-50 on the high end. I sold complete sets for $50-60. Anything above that is too much. You can place a want add and you might get a member here willing to hook you up.

JDM Woodgrain will also work, but the only pieces that will work is the vent and radio pieces and the rear doors, depending on switch style.

one of my local junkyards used to have 3 or 4 cars with that upper trim. I guess i should stop back in and check it out.

Ive seen that trim in a couple outbacks in a local junkyard.
Did anyone(factory or aftermarket)ever make wood trim for the gauge cluster surround for a 2nd gen?

Sort of... the closest thing you will find to woodgrain by the cluster is the lower cluster trim where the fog and cruise switches are:

Considering they need to be manufactured (cut) I would be willing to bet that you could buy a matching color/woodgrain sheet of uncut overlay. Then just either wrap your current cluster surround or buy an aftermarket one and wrap it:

Yeah... those kits suck though. I switched one out for a customer that had it and it was faded and pealing REALLY bad.

^Truth... but it is probably more economical than carving a new piece from solid burl.

He might be better off sourcing some high quality UV resistant laminate and wrapping all pieces himself but I have a feeling you are going to be paying a TON for anything with lasting quality.

thanks, i know those kits can be crap, I wonder if they would hold up better with a few coats of clear sprayed over them?
