So buzzing back through town from a search and destroy mission with my little brother this past Sunday, I decided to stop by and check out a white BK wagon that I had spotted a few weeks ago, just for curiosity's sake.

Got to the "For Sale" sign in the back window and read that it had newer tires and brakes, 208k miles, and they wanted $3000 for it.

Almost turned around and walked away but decided to check it all the way out just for fun. Made it halfway around the car when my eyes went wide and my jaw about hit the ground.

It's a POSTAL WAGON!!!!!

Immediately called the number on the sign and the guy came outside and let me into the car and started it for me and all that. Started right up and purred like a cat! At this point I'm more than a little excited. I crawl all over the thing checking and nudging and shaking everything I can get my hands on.

Car has a FULL SIZE spare from the factory, all power windows, locks, mirrors and cruise. All the lights work. No serious oil leaks under the hood or at the diff save for valve covers and possibly a very minor cam seal or two. Front axles are less than six months old, less than 4 months on the brakes. Stack of maintenance records and receipts dating back to 2001. Roof rack has already been added, front seats have been replaced with the same pattern just slightly darker grey, which makes the drivers seat feel like new since it used to be a passenger seat! Has clean and straight cargo cover in the back, and the window cleaning air deflector on the hatch!

There were really only a handful of real negatives that I could come up with to use as bargaining chips. The exterior is a little bumped and bruised. One palm sized dent in the right hand side of the hood, just outboard of the body line, and one behind the rear right side door about the same size. Couple of scuffs on the right side mirror and the left rear quarter panel. Those are all pretty minor, the big one I'm concerned about is that it's an auto! Haha, all in good time. The boots on both side of the steering rack are also torn, so I definitely need to do something about that before it becomes a real problem.

Other than that it runs and drives great for a bone stock, 200k mile EJ22 with 4EAT!

Oh, and I managed to steal it from him for $2200 WITH a spare transmission that needs the Duty C solenoid replaced.

Onward with the pictures!

Onward ho with the 5-speed agenda! I've spent a bit of time with my head under the dash of both my LHD 5MT car AND my RHD 4EAT car now and as far as I can discern so far, the pedal sets are probably different but are not DEFINITELY different. Biggest thing being the relationship between the pedals and the steering column.

In the LHD car, the brake pedal mounts just to the left of the steering column and the physical pedal itself comes down then bends to the right slightly, to finish directly below the steering column.

In the RHD car, the brake mounts just a little further to the right of the steering column, and the pedal comes straight down .

Damn! What a find! I am quite jealous my friend. I cant even imagine how much easier my life would have been starting with such a clean platform like that!? Well done.

Its a LITTLE rougher than it looks exterior wise, the white hides a lot of the little imperfections.

On a positive note, I got my 06 LGT wheels most of the way stripped down yesterday, and went and got a set of Subaru emblem center caps from the dealership today, so hopefully when I wake up from my night shift tomorrow afternoon I can finish sanding them and shoot them with a coat of filler primer before heading back to work.

Well, just pulled the trigger on a set of JDM projector headlights. Should be here in 14-21 days! Will wait to pick up a harness for them after they get here.

Well I randomly decided to venture down to the Sherwood, OR Picknpull this morning after getting off of my night shift and I sure am glad I did!

Scored an OB rear sway for the postal wagon AND a set of A pillar tweeters AND one of the nice looking coil/engine covers off of the first gen cars!

Pics soon.

Oooooooo. I may want to get a postal 2nd gen in the future. Good find. Funny thing is about a year ago there was a 2nd gen postal wagon at a local pick and pull and I never really paid attention to it. It might of been a 99 cause it had a phase 2 2.2

Funny thing is these springs are exactly the same as the ones on the left hand drive, but I have less tire gap(with smaller tires!) and more saggy butt than the LHD car?! I dont get it.

So, toying with the idea of selling the postal wagon. Not that there is anything wrong with it, I just don't have the time or space needed to give it all the awesomeness it deserves. I got the WRX suspension goodies on there, the JDM headlights, and the mesh grill I built, I'm just kind of stuck now though. I like my LHD/5MT car way better still.

I was told you were looking for a few shots of a manual RHD pedal cluster? Here's what mine looks like...if you want a few extra pics, I'll try to get them...it's a pain to get good pictures under there, even with a flash on the camera phone and a flashlight...lol. Or hell, I could try to take a video of every angle when it stops raining here...

So I have officially decided to put this car up for sale. I don't give it near as much love as it deserves, and I'm sure that somebody with more time and/or space would be much better for this car. Nothing wrong with the car, just not enough love from Nic.

If any of you guys are interested, I'd like to start things at $3000 with the mods that I have done to it now which are: WRX springs/struts, JDM projectors, 16" alloys with GOOD rubber, and an OB 18mm rear sway. PM me to make an offer/deal or ask for more details, I will get a FS thread started in the appropriate forum tomorrow.

Well the postal has been removed from the chopping block, for now at least.

New plan is to ditch the wrx springs/struts and going to Outback struts with Forester springs.

That's right, i'm going to lift my postal!

That stance looks awefully familiar. Not as level as I thought it'd turn out, or maybe its the terrain.

My driveway does slope up a bit so the car is sitting higher at the front then the back jut that way, plus the whole wagon bit. Going to see about finding the rest of the spacers off of an Outback to make my axles happy again, then go for a strut spacer lift on top of that. Should have PLENTY of room for the tires I want to run.

Then it will be time for racks, bumpers, and lights!

So, I pulled the trigger on a set of General Grabber AT2's yesterday. They should be here later this week!

Also had my first all day off-pavement adventure today in this car, and it did INCREDIBLE! Had a few bumper scrapes trying to cross some snow ditches cut into the logging roads, but a little more lift from the tires and some home brew offroad bumpers and we will be VERY ready to go.

Here it is in its full glory! I think it looks great. Next on the agenda is bumpers so I can get my 6" Hellas mounted!

Looking good man, what size grabbers did you go with.

wentz912
10-26-2013, 03:12 PM
They are the 27x8.50x14's. Far as I'm concerned they're perfect sized. Car sits about the same height as a stock height 4x4 Chevy S10!
