My quarter panel and "dog leg" section is pretty much rusted away, so I want to replace both of them, and the rocker panels. Does Subaru still carry the body panels in stock, or is there an aftermarket/LKQ source I can contact to get ahold of these? If I have to I will go out to the scrap yards and cut off a clean quarter panel. lol

I called my closest Subaru dealer about the rear quarters on my 99 BD and they still make them. So, maybe? You would have to call and find out.

I'll give my local dealership a call and find out.

The yards around my neck of the woods don't allow powered "saws". I've had to sneak in my small Jobmax saw for hours of fun in the sun. But I'd do that any day over paying $500+ per side, for JUST the quarter... and that's for recycled/remanufactured.

I hear you. Most of the cars here are rusted out, so it's difficult to find a rust free quarter. I'd rather spend the money and get a brand new quarter and weld it on to the factory plug welds.

dealers should still carry them, but im pretty sure you can find a clean one at a yard for half the price.

did you check any of your local auto-body supply stores? they all deal with aftermarket/oem/LKQ and usually are a bit cheaper.

I work at a body shop, and going through experience with aftermarket parts they NEVER fit compared to OEM. If I can't go through the dealership, then I'll try and get a used quarter that is rust free.

I work at a body shop,

so do i. Some aftermarket actually fits pretty decent lately. some is still horrible though.

LKQ wouldn't be as bad. We had some bumpers that barely fit!

LOL...

Good fitment of Aftermarket parts: 5%
Dont fit for crap: 95%

I remember replacing a fender on a Civic once and the gaps where so far off on every side that I could stick my finger in every gap. I NEVER use them here at my shop, unless the customer asks for them. Aftermarket lights tend to be good, but thats about it.

pretty much entire panel upto rear window
That would be a lot, just for the shipping...

I agree with this %100

i just did a 2010 altima and it got aftermarket fender, bumper and headlight. fender fit perfect, headlight fit perfect, bumper was crap.

as i said, we have alot of good fitting aftermarket. but not always. sometimes its close and you have to use some knowledge and some tools to make it perfect. sometimes its just crap. I guess its a "crapshoot" :)

Nothing is better then OEM.you are right, and I don't disagree.. but there ARE other options and in some situations there is no OEM

Exactly, try and find some oem parts for my 60's/70's/80's vw's

mainly aftermarket for those unless you want to pay big $$$

when it comes to those cars i cant just buy a panel and bolt it on. you have to be good.

Actually, if you ship greyhound the prices are very cheap. Usually 50% of what UPS would charge. Sending a quarter panel wouldn't cost much.

I'm in the same boat.. need new quarter panels on my rusted out suby

I've asked the guys at subarupartsforyou.com if they can get them, and they can. But they won't ship. They are located in CT. I asked about 99 LGT panels though.

since we are on quarter panel topic how hard is it to actually replace one? main concern is where do you cut your original panel and does the glass need to come off

Depends on how you would like to section a quarter. In most places you would cut the quarter on the top part of the c piller of a sedan, and in the middle of the window channels on a wagon. For the lower section you cut at the "dog leg" or the lower door frame that is the thinnest.

I really need to get the rust taken care of one my one rear wheel well also. Can you have the bodyshop cut and weld in a patch piece instead of getting a new panel? Im just wondering because the panel seems like it will be a lot more expensive?

You definitely can have someone weld a clean patch panel in. I wish i could find a damn body shop near NH to do this. No one seems to want to do this type of work anymore. And if they do, they charge a friggin arm and a leg for it. Guess i need to learn how to weld :(

There has to someone by you that would be willing to do it.
