My wifes Outback gets CEL's just about every month, and I read and clear them after each episode. The one she usually gets is a faulty thermostat code - I changed the thermostat, the car never is under/over cooled, but the code keeps coming back. Its a pain in the ass,but I just keep telling her to keep an eye on the temp gauge. Not a big deal - probably just an eronious code.

Yesterday day though, she got a new one - P1443 EVAP vent control solenoid function fault. I have looked into this and it doesn't seem to be a big deal - can anyone tell me different? If it is more of a big deal that I think it is, I will have to get her in to get it checked out sooner than I had planned.

Is the car driving different at all?

Sputtering, poor gas mileage, bad idle, rash, itchiness, bleeding, or hives? (ignore the last 4  )

I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Seems like it's for your climate control system, but I could be wrong.

I believe it is related to the usage of gas tank vapors while the engine is running, and storage while it is not. I don't drive the car, but have told my wife to make mental note of any weird things that the car is doing - being a woman she needs to be told this as she will drive the car as long as no warning lights come on, regardless what it does.

She did mention that she thought the car had reduced gas mileage, but never pays attention to her range or gas usage, so probably not. I have checked her mileage periodically, and she gets between 21 and 22 mpg, (almost all highway)which is lower than the roughly 21 to 27 mpg the car should be getting, but I also generally get around 23 mpg (almost mostly highway) in the Legacy.

Did you ever figure this out? My car just threw this couple days ago.. got it cleared and it hasn't come back but my gas mileage has dropped horribly!!
