And now I hate you. JK.

That is a SWEET looking rig!!! Mind if I ask how much something like that costs?

Also, what is the button under your shifter do? Not the Power button but the one that is on the center console like it is for Shift Lock maybe?

It was $6k with 4 new tires, timing belt, 2 year JCI and this years road taxes done. I still need to figure out what the button does, everyone has been asking.

Which button? If you're talking about the power button on the shift tree stalk, I can almost guarantee it is an "overdrive off" button. Nissan 240SXs have them as well. It just drops you a gear if you're in overdrive.

Also, how rare or common are these in Japan? Are they limited production like the S401 or a pretty regular model like the STI WRX or Outback XT over here? I see a lot more pictures of these than I do STI Legacies, but I feel like these should be just as rare.

The Forester STi (SF) is not rare. The manual transmissions were quite uncommon, but the automatic Forester STi was just as common as the Impreza STi. Still awesome and fun to drive, but not rare by a long shot.

Maybe it's for manual mode? I have a power and manual indicator lights on the dash of my '91 FWD Legacy.

My SVX has the same button location on the shifter and it turns on "manual mode". Id lean towards that possibility since it is a performance vehicle with an auto trans.

Sick deal by the way! The Forester STI is an awesome looking(and probably quick) car.

It's not rare in mainland Japan, but man was it hard to find here in okinawa.

This car doesn't seem to have a manual mode setup, or at least it seems that way. Ill check and let you guys know.

It's surprisingly fast for a vehicle this size. It caught me off guard the first time I punched it, my hat was on the dash and it went flying.

For some unexplained reason I now find myself wanting a 1st gen Forester.

I think that button is to unlock the gear shifter....it doesn't seem to do anything.

Get it on the highway or somewhere that you can reach its overdrive gear, then hit it. It should drop a gear. It likely won't do it from a lower gear (ie. 3rd to 2nd) because if it behaves the same way as it does over here, it only turns your overdrive off, which you won't feel unless you're already in overdrive. And yes, it will give you more power, simply because it's like shifting from 5th to 4th on the highway.

I'm 99% sure that's what it is. At least, that's what it was on the Brighton....

I could still be wrong though.

Thats what it is, a "Auto Shift Release". Mostly it's say if it's getting towed, dead battury, installing a stereo... Things like that. I used them when I have a car I have the battery pulled out of to move it. Use it all the time...

That is a SWEET ride bro! A friend of mine that used to import halfcuts and such got 98 S/tb auto and swapped all the parts to a USDM body. I got to drive it a couple years ago and I remember it being pretty damn fast! I really like how yours looks for sure!

I figured that's what it is, thanks for the info.

My wife finally got around to drivin it around last night. She scared me a couple of times, so you could definitely tell she likes it.

Okay, this is very cool. Far cooler than that Honda.

But sitting next to the Blitzen, the headlights are just SOOOO obvious.

I was actually thinking about doing it to the Forester, but I do t want my wife to worry about visibility.

I put in a 12" sub with a 1000w amp and put some brackets in to keep it in place.

MAn... the vacuum system on this looks so much easier then the one on my GT-B! haha

Cervantes
07-23-2013, 05:06 PM
It's much easier...vacuum leaks should take 2 minutes. Unlike my car, which has about 30 miles of vacuum lines.
