The "Is it a good price?" thread

I figure it'd be a cool idea to have a thread just for price-checking, try to save each other from buying something that could be had for a better price, or in better condition for the same price.

My local boneyard has a 2nd-gen Legacy GT Sedan. Most of it's shot to hell, but the hood is pretty smooth, save for a spot where the paint's been gouged pretty deep. Not gonna buff out. No serious dents that I can see, though.
Asking $100 for it. Should I save my pennies? I know this guy will charge way too much on occasion, but at the same time, this is the first GT hood I've seen in my area in a long while.

$100 isn't too bad, there is one boneyard in my area that sells any hood for $30.00/w core if you should choose to leave yours there or the price has gone up another 30. Its very hard to find 2nd gen parts here and 60 bucks isn't bad either. The other salvages around here deal under lkq and those prices for scooped hoods reach about 200. The economy is incredibly low in my region too so pennies must be pinched.

Sorry, green. And I'm guessing shipping to be a pain since slapping a shipping tag on the hood and sending it would probably not guarantee it's safe arrival. Lol.

Go to pa. In 3 juniyards I've seen roughly 20 good gt hoods with a $30 pricetag no core

Well f*** my life, glad I haven't bought one I'm doing an Sti scoop then..

I'm sure it will get dinged up and scratched during transit, insurance can't protect against complacency. I have to make an actual reason to go to the east coast.

$100 is cheap around here for a hood that isn't totally fisheye'd.

$100 is about the norm. I can get them all day for about $75 though, but I'm also a shop with connections.

I would always check here though. There seems to be a lot of guys in the East parting cars out with those hoods.

I've been pretty quiet the last couple years after selling my '98 LGT, but now I'm looking at possibly buying a '99 Outback Limited wagon with an automatic. $1500, needs head gaskets, tires, and maybe a transmission in the near future (the fluid is brown, but doesn't smell burnt) however, I have a spare 4EAT just in case. It has a new battery, alternator, brakes (pads & front rotors). The seller states that the timing belt & water pump were replaced when he bought it (not a big deal, as I'll have them replaced when I do the HGs).

The exterior is in decent shape - a few dents here and there with one minor rust spot on the driver's side fender. The clear coat around the hood scoop is beginning to peel up as well. That said, the interior is immaculate; heated leather seats, newer factory Subaru radio and just about every option available except the sunroof. What do you all think?

Eh, forget that I asked - I did a bit more research and took a closer look at the car this afternoon; it needs a bit of TLC, but I figured it was worth it. I'll have a Member's Ride thread posted in the next couple days :cool:
