SUBARU ENGINE MOUNTING PROBLEM ?

Hi Guy's, my name is Don and i'm a 75 year old Australian, my 93 FRONT WHEEL DRIVE Legacy ("Legend" in this country) has done 360,000trouble free kilometers and still is in first class condition, but now has developed a pronounced klunk when on and off the loud pedal .and I assumed it to be mountings, the gear lever however does not jump about as one would think if it were the rear mounting ! so I am assuming that the front mountings have got soft over the many kilometers and before purchasing same I am asking if anyone else has experienced this PARTICULAR problem ?

Well, there are 4 mounts in total:

2 engine mounts, on the bottom, either side of the engine
The pitch stop mount - goes from the top of the bell housing on the engine/transmission to the firewall.
The transmission mount, connects the transmission to the subframe on the bottom of the tranny.

If you're noticing a lot of shifter movement, it could very well be the transmission mount, or a combination of all of them, given the age of the car.

To somewhat answer your question, yes, mounting cushion wear is a common issue on Subarus as they do achieve high miles/old age, and eventually they do need to be replaced.

You should be able to the see the engine tilt slightly (or a lot) if you pop the hood with the engine running and blip the throttle with your hand.

Does it ONLY happen when getting on and off the throttle or when shifting too?
