Please help a brother out!

Fellow Subi-ites,

I've been planning on tearing out my carpet for months now with the plan to dye that mangy grey a nice clean black. Here is the write-up from a fellow sl-i member.

So I get the car completely gutted and as I peel back the carpet on the passenger side I see a puddle of water in the footwell. Nothing has spilled, and it hasn't rained in weeks that would give me a reason to find liquid on the floor of my car. And, the carpet itself wasn't wet, only the padding beneath the carpet.

It has smelled musty in there since I started using the air conditioner, which makes me think that there could be a blockage causing the a.c. to back up the water that it would normally spit out, dumping it into the passenger side of my car...

Has anyone come across this, or is there something I could do to try to fix this "beverage accumulation" from the passenger side of my car???

I'm seriously clueless here, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The heater unit is over there in most cars and trucks. When they get a leak, it ends up on the floor. Thats where I would start!

Its also possible that there is a drain tube for the A/C system, that is supposed to drain outside. It could be clogged and overflowing. Not sure how this stuff is on our cars, but its fairly typica setup for most cars.

In fact I'm going to check mine out soon, make sure I dont have wet carpet padding and clean out any drains, as well as the a/c/ & heater ducts. Might even do the DIY cabin filter!

That drain tube goon is referring to is underneath the cowl cover, you must remove your wiper arms and lift the cowl out of the way you will see it right away in the water channel..a coat hanger will work wonders for cleaning that out.

Well guys, I opened up the cowl and couldn't find a drain at all. There are little holes that lead to god-knows-where, but I couldn't see a darn thing. Has anyone ever done this on a third gen? Again, thanks for all the help!

There will definitely be a hose... it comes out of the firewall right by where the turbo/downpipe would be on a turbo car.

In fact it is often melted/burned when an aftermarket downpipe is installed because it will touch that rubber hose.

I will take a picture of the one in the WRX and the 99 legacy so you can see where I am talking about.

Does anyone have pictures of the location of the drain hose on a third gen?

I went thru this last month and on my 00 BE there's no drain plug on the radiator. I even went to 3 different garages to confirm it. In the end when I did my flush I drained all the rad fluid thru the thermostat housing under the engine.
