Im sorry if its been asked but i was wondering if the suspension from a AWD fit into a FWD?
and what else would it fit out of? impreza and forester and such?

thanks

Yep, the struts, swaybars and control arms are all the same. As far as strut Foz/impreza strut compatibility, I'm not 100% sure, but it's been covered well on here.

I wasn't aware they made a FWD Legacy after the Second Gen started...

I knew they made them, thought they stopped in 96 though. I don't know if it holds true for the fwd gen 2 or not, but gen 1 legacy and Impreza fwd cars had longer rear struts than the awd counterparts. The rear knuckle has a lower strut mount point since it doesn't have to clear an axle.

this post was for the 1997(gen 2) legacy, not my gen 3 :)

I had to read it too. DGA93 over in the US they stopped FWD Subarus in 1995 (when the 2nd Gen legacies started here). All Subarus have been AWD in the states, up until the BRZ was released.

And to answer your question the 02-07 WRX (GD Chassis), and the 2nd Gen For will work.

According to cars101.com (US Subaru info site), 1996 was the last FWD year. http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive95_97.html

New for 1997:
All models now have all-wheel-drive. There is no longer a front wheel drive model.
LS model discontinued.
LSi model in very short supply and was discontinued very early in the model year (I think it was around November)

front end stuff is the same, but the FWD steering rack will extend further (more geometry).

the rear end is very different between FWD/AWD. gas tank, rear crossmember, cross links and trailing arms, etc.
The rear struts are not the same, because they mount at a different angle to the rear hubs than on an AWD

^ True, but if you had a parts car, you could convert it, if I remember correctly, but it would be a TON of work.

Yes, you can. I've done it. It is a pain in the ass.
