My 2000 rs with stock security system is on the fritz. I have had issues with my alarm controlling itself. It'll lock, unlock, alarm, and turn the alarm off all by itself. I noticed it did this a lot when I had my driver hood vent backing plate off and it rained so I'm sure that's where the problem is. Now I have the backing plate on for about a year and it happens randomly. Happened last night at 2am and we didn't have any rain in 2 days.
I'm wondering if my fuse is just starting to go causing variable current through the system but that's just a guess and where I'm going to start. Any other input will be appreciated. I don't want to be the crazy neighbor that goes outside gun drawn everytime my car wants to be an alarm clock.

More then likely needs a new brain... I had this same thing happen with my 98 GT a number of times. I just went t the yard and got the brain box and a fob. I might have a matching set, but never tested. Thats all I did though. You can re-program the fob, so all you really need is a box. They are right up under the steering column.
Post a pic if you can get one.

Ill have to upload them tomorrow. Alarm went off earlier again. Both times it shut the alarm off itself as soon as we shut the door. Maybe it doesn't need a brain but a new attitude lol. Or maybe its pissed that my parents brought their ford and not the forester during their visit.

I'm having a problem with a 2000 legacy wagon that I'm replacing a clutch on, I just started working on it this afternoon, I unlocked the car opened the hood and started draining the radiator when the alarm goes off out of nowhere.
I went Inside and grabbed the key and the fobs battery was dead so I just tried to start it didn't do anything, so I just puller the horn relay because it was loud as hell at 930 Got a new battery for the fob it still didn't turn off. Think it may need reset or what? I looked in the manual but it doesn't specify the conditions I ran into.

The thread a couple weeks old but what happened with it, may be some relevance to what I'm experiencing.

I got a new alarm module from robin and its been sitting on my coffee table ever since. Alarm hasn't gone off lately and I've been too busy with work and house hunting

^oh ok, I was messing around with it and just tried the activation steps it didn't work..but the disarming steps worked and wasn't so intense like the fob activation.
