Road trip emergency kit

I have bought a 2.2l legacy in seattle. I am flying to seattle, buying the car, driving to portland to pick up a friend, and driving home to Minnesota, using mostly back roads.

I figure:

Alternator belt,
coolant hoses
Coolant
distilled water
spark plugs
gas can
jack
basic metric socket set.

Anything else?

can of plasti-dip or paint defender for the miles of bugs and gravel abuse to the rockers and bumper.
rubber mallet and zip-ties seems to have saved me on more than a few road trips.
i also keep my portable booster pack for the time i'll likely leave the dome light on at the hotel...

Absolutely. there are many times where you need to turn the nut while holding the bolt. I always carry a socket & wrench set in my car at all times.

I would bring a battery terminal cleaning tool in case the battery is really cruddy. Maybe some dielectric grease for bad electrical connections.

I'd take a multi-screwdriver or two.

and of course, duct tape.

Electric tape, too. Holds things better than duct tape around funny corners.

Also, zipties.

And a camera. I wanna see this trip documented. Sounds like it will be awesome.

Make sure the car have a spare tire and the tire plugger kit

you really only need an 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 and 21mm sockets and wrenches to fix anything on these cars...bring a breaker bar too.

Have AAA. Will likely buy an entire set of wheels and tires in Seattle or Portland, so should be set for spares.

Electrical grease and some sandpaper now on the list.
Probably painters tape for the leading edges.
Duct tape will be had. Breaker bar will be bought

The car has been checked out by a reputable (used) dealership, so it should be fairly painless.

If you're taking the axle nut off, you might need more than an emergency toolkit anyways.

If you're referring to the lugnuts, they're 19mm.

Didn't get any of that stuff. Power steering failed just over the Minnesota line, but it was a straight shot anyway.

After replacing my bumper in my driveway with the OB bumper I had the dealer source, I was dicking around and found out the banjo bolt on the high pressure side of the PS pump was completely loose. Don't know how it came loose after 2000 miles. Tightened it up, refilled the reservoir, and all good.

I hate my friend. He talked NONSTOP, and the radio was borked.

Fluids... a quart of oil and some tranny fluid in addition to the coolant that you mentioned. It would also be nice to have an OBD2 scan tool with you in case it pops a CEL. I would also carry a fire extinguisher... not just for this trip but for every trip... you never know when it will save someone else or your life.

Flares or LED flares would be good to have as well.
