EJ25D NPR piston oil rings

I'm in the middle of rebuilding the motor for my outback and I got a set of NPR piston ring set for the EJ25D. I'm tripping out on the oil ring set, since all of the oil scrapper rings have a bend on the end. I know only 4 suppose to have it for the one notch on each piston. I'm using oem pistons and it only have one notch. Anybody ran into this problem?

I used NPR rings on the STI pistons on my block and it the oil rings had 4 with bend and 4 straight and didn't have a problem with it.

that's definitely odd, the npr's for my ej22 dohc build had 4 notched and 4 straight as well

I called the ebay seller that i got it from (cnsauto) and she went to grab another set and she was nice enough to open and check out the oil ring. It also have all 8 notched oil rings. I thought I had a bad batch. So I went to go look at the old rings that was on the piston and it too had all 8 notched oil rings. Double checked on another set of oem rings and they were all notched. So apparently they all came with 8 notched oil rings from the factory but only one notch on each piston.

Sadly I didn't bother to look at how it was installed instead I took all of them apart only thought that the other pair is notched. And according to the sales person from cnsauto, they had sold over 10 sets and no one ever called for a problem. Anybody else rebuilt a EJ25D and had the same problem?

I am using the NPR rings on my 25D. Never had an issue. The notch fits fine inside the oil control ring. Just make sure to put it 180 degrees from the notch on the piston.

Thanks guys. Yeah I looked at the outline of the old oil rings and it does go inside the control rings. The stock oem one have a wave patter going up and down which is easier to to install the lower oil control ring. The npr have a wave patter going side to side which is also easy to install but a little tricky since you have to sneak the lower control ring behind the wave ring. Shortblock is done just lapping the valves and found 1 bent valve :( other one is on the way
