Hey Guys,
I have a 92 legacy. I'm playing with the wiring in my car, and have come across a connector that has obviously never been plugged into anything(It's dirty inside and a little carroded). It taps on to the power wires for the main cooling fan and is just a two pin connector. I was going to pull it into the cab coil the wire and forget about it, but then I almost was going to cut it off. Before I do anything with it, I want to know what it is. I've looked over some wiring diagrams, and the only thing I find is it's labled A/C SHORT CONNECTOR. The only info I have been able to find on it, is a write up on a VW forum about a Vanogan motor swap, and the guy was asking what it was/did he need it. It seems to be a way to test the fans but I'm not sure and I can't test that theory either. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks

probably a method of testing if the fans come on when you turn the a/c on, which is whats supposed to happen.

jump it and see what happens, worst that happens is you pop a fuse.

UPDATE: I called the dealer, and was told he had nothing to tell him what it was. The only people who would know are the techs and only if they had to look in a wiring schematic. What a worthless answer. Please someone who has read my whole post and may know what this thig does, leave a message. Thanks

That may be a worthless answer, but it's true nonetheless. I work in a Ford parts department and we don't have easy access to anything on the wiring side of things, just the pigtails and full harnesses to order, with a very vague description of where/what they plug into.

Well, that is Ford. Subaru has fantastic service manuals which include extensive wiring diagrams, however going back further than 1995 gets to be more difficult.

Ford does too, but the parts guys don't have it. That's part of service department's accessible information.

And a lot of it comes into who is looking at the info as well.

^^ ha thats the one and only article I found on this connector. I realize what i was asking the dealer was a long shot, But I guess I wasn't happy with the parts guys himself. I decided I'm just going to tuck it to the side. That way it's there if I ever need it (not likely) but not in my way. I will test what this connector is for when I get the wiring all put back together and be able to put the battery in it and post back. Thanks for your help guys

I work for a Subaru dealer in the parts department and we have no access to that information, either. We would have to ask one of the techs, but most of them have been working on Subarus long enough that if you gave a good enough description they could tell you...
