An outback IS a Legacy. It's just higher, and has slightly different trim.

yeah.. basically i made an outback. except 2.2 instead of 2.5, which is better in a lot of respects.

why do you think the 2.2 is better than the 2.5...idk i think the outback has more features and the better engine w/ sum more power

its the same car man. you can get a regular leg with the same engine. the only difference is suspension.

he likes the 2.2 probably because the head gaskets don't reliably blow :lol:

The EJ22 is much more reliable.

the EJ25 really isn't that much faster either...despite that it's peak power ratings are more impressive.

113k and zero headgasket related problems....

I do not think the 2.2L is far more superior to the 2.5L, they are actually pretty similar in many ways.

In 04, Subaru went heavy duty with the headgaskets...they probably did not blow for the same reason as most Subaru HGs do. Especially at 20,000 miles. Abuse? Lemon? Overheating a lot? I'm not sure.

As for HG issues, the problem was never really resolved until '04 (ironic, huh?) In 2000, the PhaseII EJ25 came out (99 for Imprezas) and the situation was improved, but there were still cooling issues.

Go with an EJ22 if you're so concerned...or maybe an EJ22t ;)
