I have a 96 subaru legacy outback with the ej25 and it has no rev limiter. It would be nice to have one. Is there a way to adjust the rev limiter lower or if it even has one. Please help me soon cause its annoying not having one.

Umm... why do you need one? EJ25D's have no power at red line anyway. A Good driver will not go that far past it even when racing anyway.

Well it's cause I don't want to blow up my motor. So it would be nice to adjust the rev limiter

Agree with Dead, I can understand why you want one but your right foot can limit revs pretty effectively. There are occasions when you might accidentally over-rev but that alone shouldn't blow up your motor.

How common is it for these ecu's to not have a limiter?

I've got a better question, how common is it for most factory tuned engines to start running out of power above 6k rpm anyways?

Well, I know my GT-B has one at 8K.. or something close... Only know because I have missed a couple shifts... haha...

My BD, I have never found it, if it has one... EJ25D's dont like high revs... plus the power band well before red-line anyway.

I know that without mods that most aren't going to make power up top. It just seems odd to me for them not to have a limiter, or maybe OP just hasn't gotten it that high. The ej22 legacys I've had have had a limiter, found them quite a bit when I was younger lol.

How do you know you don't have a rev limiter? Have you revved it past 7K? Some Legacy ECUs simply have a fuel cut which causes the engine to stall for a moment until the revs back down.

Why do you say that EJ25Ds doesn't like high revs? Most Subaru engines don't but at least the EJ25D makes power all the way to redline unlike the EJ251.

I've hit fuel cut on the EJ22. It's right around 6500RPMs. Just got careless once, it was rather shocking as it was in 1st gear, haha.

Never hit the rev limiter in my EJ251. It must be high because I did hit almost 7k once. Damn extra HP and a shorter geared transmission.

But I agree with everyone, you shouldn't need a rev limiter, it's not like you should really have to worry about over revving your car unless you drive like a tool.

And if you do, well, pay attention to what you're doing.

The revvy in both my EJ22 cars I currently own is at 6200 rpm

96 25Ds run out of breath around 5500rpm.
97-99 25Ds run out of breath at around 6500rpm but drop off sharply at about 6700rpm.
