Anyone have any opinions on gutting a stock muffler on a 1998 gt?

Why would you waste the time? Just get a performance muffler and call it good?

Opinions? Yes. Don't do it.

That's a lot of work for very little results. That's like continuing to hit on a girl after you find out she's happily married to a firefighting doctor. You're better off moving on to her single and saucy friend aka a Vibrant Streetpower muffler.

I have taken apart the muffler from my secomd gen legacy last year to make it into a grill in my metal shop class. It is a mess inside there. Multiple chambers with numerous pipes inbetween the chambers. You almost will have to mangle the shell beyond repair to gut it.

I think i have a picture somewhere i will post up if i can find it.

I remember reading the popular sti muffler gut, like opening a can of soup then welding it back together. Not worth the effort and from I remember it sounds like straight up crap! You can try to google the sti muffler gut which will probably get you the same results as your muffler.

Alright thanks for the info. Ive been debating it, I have seen it done on hondas and its sounded good how about a Magnaflow or flowmaster with a 100% stock car besides CAI

this is what a stock 2.5L sounds like with a glasspack with the silencer chambers taken off on the intake and the holes plugged.
