Ok, so I have had my 98 BD for about 6-7 years. She has been a blessing to me in many ways. It was the newest car I got (at that time) and was the most practical. I have done just about everything I have other then a JDM rear glass, 5 speed, and a turbo.
Here's my thing. As much as I love my BD, I'm limited on what I can do with it. I have lowered it and I can no longer go camping or hiking. I know this can be reversed with no time, but then the fun factor would go down. It's also a soon to be 15 year old car, I got it when it was 9 years old. And lastly, after having the GT-B (wagon) for the last few months and using it for work, my sedan limits what I can do. I do have my Toyota, but with it being loaned then totaled for the last 3 months and not using it, the wagon was doing more then I intended.
I have been batting the idea of getting a Subaru Baja. I'm not that excited abut the look of a 2nd gen Legacy (like them, but dont love them), but for some reason, I'm loving the Baja and the ways I can use it. the fact I can haul a normal engine (not a big block.. haha) or a trans makes me think about it even more. I can also haul just about any other little things like fire wood, stove, a set of tires, or what ever it might be and I will still have my Ford F-250 for the big stuff. I also still want a 4 door and this would take up that end as well and I have had an itch for lifting a Subaru and this one would make perfect sense to do it to.
So this is what I need to know. I WANT a 5 speed Turbo. Over here they can be had, but they are priced way out of my range right now, $12K-$16K. What I need to know if how interchangeable they are with the newer gen turbo FXT, GT, XTOB and WRX? Would it be a drop in swap, or a pain in the anus?
My ultimate plans are....
-Turbo
-5 speed
-2 to 4 inch lift
-custom tube steel bumpers front (w/winch) and rear
-rock sliders
-belly pans
-D type headlights and hood
-canopy
I'm not sure on color yet, but I do know I'll be doing something custom with the cladding's.
I want to keep my bd, but the logic is not there and if I can replace it and my Toyota with a Baja, life would be a little simpler.
If you guys have any input on Baja's or find any adds, post them here. I'm not joking, this might become reality, but I will not rush this either. Took me 6 months to find my BD when I first started looking.... If a nice car is the right price, I might buy out of state and ship it or pick it up as well.
