Hey so someone stole my 1997 legacy gt 4eat yesterday. Kinda my fault for not gettin an alarm n makin it nice. Does anyone have experience with this because from what I've read I will not be getting my car back. Posted it on craigslist. I live in tacoma wa n it was stolen from tacoma community college. Will they strip it even though my parts aren't really interchangeable? Any tips or experience welcome. I am thinking of trying to buy a 99 forester next any thoughts on that also welcome. No insurance either. Sure feel dumb now.

No insurance = you are screwed. Sorry for your loss.. :(
It does seem to be an odd car to steal however.. not exactly very high on resale value even for parts... hell of a lot of risk for a couple hundred dollars in parts.. Is it possible that someone that you know is playing a practical joke on you?

No I'm hoping it is just a joyride. Had a full tank of gas. I don't care if they strip all the shit I put on off if I just get the body back in tact I'll fix. Next car getting one of those removable wheels n alarm

where do you live? did you have nice rims that are easily recognizable? check craigslist for parts off it, are there any backroads or offroad parks in your area? check those. is there a metal recyclers in your area? i waited in a salvage yard for a couple days once waiting for the stripped chassis to show up. put up an ad on craigs list for a "subaru that needs work" or a part or two that you had on there you think you could identify. and last, depending on where you live you could find and hire someone to track them down but if you called the cops i wouldent do that one, its more of a taking care of it yourself option;/

Weird. I swear, subaru legacies are becoming the next honda civic. Here over the past 5 years I've seen a massive increase in kids driving and 'modifying' (ricing out) legacies and such. With that being said, its still a weird car to try and steal. Hopefully you can get some info about it.
Does your community college have any cameras in their parking lot? Any nearby businesses that they may have passed on the way out that has cameras?
Pretty weird someone would steal a legacy.. they aren't worth very much and are a dime a dozen.
I hope you can find your car. Good luck!

No cameras. Legacy gt dime a doZen not so much I guess ne1 with my year could use my parts but the odds of them randomly being in parking lot so small. So is everyone thinkin I won't get it back or if I do it is totaled?

Yeah, if there are any sketchy apartment complexes around you, id check their back lots and stuff too. I remembered when I lived in FL that accords would regularly be stolen and gutted in the back of apartment complexes for some reason.
Maybe post a picture up of what the car looked like so people can keep an eye out.

How about you post some pics...? I live just south of Seattle, Red85celica (Burien) and ags18 (Federal Way) and I troll C/L for Legacy's all the time. Also, I notice Legacy's on the road so get some pics posted and we will keep eyes out for it.

There's nothing wrong with how your car looks. The wheels almost look like a 17" version of the stock snowflakes, honestly. I like it.
Best of luck getting it back.

Cars are usually dumped in the back of apartment complexes for one simple reason:
There is no way to know which unit placed it there if the local LEOs find it. If it was in a home's driveway, the thief would be obvious at that point.
Usually people will not return a call for a stolen car on CL unless there is a reward for it. You aren't looking for decent people, you are looking for people who live near the thief and likely share the same societal issues. They WILL fold on someone they know in a heartbeat. Don't say a specific reward either. When the time comes, verify the car found is yours, and offer the slugs 20 bucks or a hearty handshake.

On Tuesday night my son's Leggy was stolen while they were on the way back from getting my daughter from college in Natomas (we live in Camino Ca) they had stopped at a Wendys for dinner in Folsom and were inside for about 20 min, came back out and it was gone...here is the thing, as a family we have been going through some hard times and my wife and I could not afford to buy him his first car, I helped pick it and a little $ but he worked part time and payed for the car himself, this kind of sucks as it was a 1995 Subie Legacy (our 3rd) and kind of a beater from the previous owner but still going strong 145k miles and 2wd. because we were paying for the insurance we could not afford full coverage and now he's out a car and cash, my daughters books and artwork are gone as well as her vintage Led Zepplin levi jacket. :smt010

They were more then likely using it to drive to work... happens all the time. My dads Datsun truck came back after 2 months gone but without wheels and tires, stereo system, and they broke into the tool box.
