My domestic market??

Guys I have an existential dude:

Japan = JDM: ¿the same code for Australia?, what happens with UK?

Europe = EDM: for all countries? Or any exception, like the UK domestic market?

USA = USDM: only USA or it's for North America? (Mexico, USA and Canada)

And we? In South America?

I might be wrong on this, but the way I categorize the markets are USDM (US only), CDM (Canada), JDM (Japan), AUDM (AUS and NZ), EDM (Europe and UK), and General/Global Market (nearly everyone else). Some really uncommon markets also exist, like Russia (which I believe is DGM or RDM, correct me if I'm wrong).

As far as I know, South America falls under the General/Global Market category.

I'm basing this off of factory service manuals that I know exist. It's possible that Canadian cars and European cars also fall under Global market, but since they have their own distinct FSMs from the global market, I consider them their own market.

From what I have gathered with all of the service manuals that I have seen, there are basically three types of cars that Subaru makes.

North American (includes USDM and CDM), Japanese (JDM of course), and General Market (All other countries).

There are localized versions of the manuals for Russia, France, and Australia/New Zealand (they change the name to Liberty), but they are all generally the same. The General Market manual will indicate differences for a specific country in it.

I checked some catalogs of that time (1997 BD - BG), and have noticed that we have the 2.5 GX models, similar to the EDM without height control. There are GL and LX models ... finally, also sold sedan and wagon models of USDM 2.5GT.

This makes me think that we receive normal models, such as the LX and GL, and to the most luxurious came USDM and EDM models ... and the EDM was approved, to reduce costs (no height control).

I comment that GL and LX models have roof hunchback (and rail bars), unlike USDM models having the flat roof.

The flat roof was a USDM only thing. It has its own chassis code.. the BJ (first gen) and BK (second gen). I am not sure why Subaru of America decided to change it up, but they did. Even then, the BF and BG (step-roof) were also available here, so that just makes it even more confusing.

Long story short, you are in the "general market". Your Applied Model code should have an "L" for its 5th character, assuming you have an LHD car, otherwise it would be a "K" for RHD.

The BF was available here? I don't think I've ever seen one...

I thought it was.. but I do not know a whole lot about 1st gen.. I know mine was a BJ, but it had no sunroof.. I assumed the sunroofed 1st gen was BF.

I have a related question... were there any LHD markets that had the option of power-folding side mirrors for either 2nd-gen (BD, BG, BK) or 3rd-gen (BE, BH, BT) Legacy models? As far as I've seen, only JDM (RHD) models have this feature. USDM 2nd-gen Legacies only had the unpowered-folding "breakaway" mirrors for the 1995 model year, and after that they only came in the one-piece, non-folding, "Shrek Ears" style for the remainder of that generation's run. Unpowered-folding breakaway mirrors returned to 3rd-gen USDM Legacies.

Those of us wanting to add power-folding mirrors to our 2nd-gen Legacies have to hack up MY1995 USDM door mounts to get the JDM folding motors to fit:

If ever there were power-fold mirrors in a LHD market, that could possibly save us from the trouble of modifying the door mounts if we could source those parts. I also wonder about other Subaru models that may have the correct components to make this upgrade possible.

I do not see any reference to power fold in the General Market 2002 Legacy FSM, so I guess not for 3rd gen. I have not looked at the 2nd gen stuff tho.
