Set aside from all of the modifications to fit the STI cluster into the legacy (BH5) dash what would some wiring diagrams include. It is an awesome mod to do but a lot of wiring would need to be done to completely swap clusters with little to no problems. I was looking around and I could not for the life of me find any wiring guides that make much sense. Has anyone attempted this mod before in their legacy, outback, or forester? I do have very good electrical skills so that and making a new harness is not a problem, its just finding the diagram like I said before. Any ideas. Worth doing? Below are some pictures of what I was looking at doing...

What year STI is that cluster from, 04-05? I will look up the wiring diagrams and let you know my thoughts..

EDIT: I looked up the 2005 STI cluster wiring, and from an electrical standpoint, I do not see any reason why it could not be made to work. I need to check the other years, but whenever they implemented CAN in the STI would be where I would not recommend trying this.

Yea that STI cluster is out of an 05'. Some wiring diagrams for the gauge clusters would be awesome! My legacy is an 01' and the cluster is an 05'. I have a really good feeling that with help from your guys we can make this work. I also lined up a guy to help me machine a piece of metal to fill the gaps between my current fit and the STI swap fit.

The wiring diagrams are just in the 2005 STI service manual which is very easily found on the internets. Look for the "Combination meter" section of the wiring.

The US market legacy pinout I have in the Japanese BFM thread on this forum. All Legacies from 2000-2004 share the same wiring.

Basically, you will want to connect function to function, but there are some you will need to decide what you want to do such as the DCCD stuff and the two cruise lights.

I believe the DCCD and the Rear diff temp lights will come on cause I dont have that obv, however Your sayinng that it is possible if I were to get the STI cluster. Would I loose function of the cruse, or just the green light?. If you could put a link down for those links it would be greatly appreciated. this is just a sweet looking mod but clusters go for around 350 a pop. One more thing. I have the 4AT trans in my legacy, would changing to the STI cluster screw up the shift lock system? Thanks

The STI cluster has two cruise lights, one for cruise enabled, one for cruise set. You would have to pick which one you want to use, since the Legacy only has one light, which is cruise set. DCCD stuff/Rear Diff Temp should not turn on if you do not connect it to anything. 3rd Gen Legacy does not have a cluster interconnect for the shift lock, so that will not be an issue.

To be completely honest, this is a pretty complex conversion. If you do not fully understand what each wire is doing on these clusters, it do not recommend trying it. I do not have the time to make up a wiring adaption chart for you, nor the time to walk you though the process. This is harder than just simply repinning or building an adapter harness for a JDM BFM.

okay I will do some more research, if you could find anyone else that could help me it would be great. Im still researching the process of doing this so it is making more and more sense slowly. Is there anywhere I could get the wiring diagrams, link or even a repair manual?

They are out there on the internets. Search for "2005 STI FSM" and "(whatever year you have) Subaru Legacy FSM"

http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/ should have both, just make sure you are looking at the US market ones on there as some are European/Australian.
