Picked up another car about a month ago, it was cheap, functional and easy to maintain.

My 1985 GMC Jimmy K5 Blazer.
Started out with a few electrical issues but what 28 year old car does not have that.
Been working on it the last few weeks resulting in functioning interior lighting, 12v outlet, a new starter motor and new headlamps.

Put on a bull bar and a set of Dually's

It has 661000km on it, but the engine has been swapped a few times i believe, transmission/axles i don't know.

Mods done:
33x12,5x15" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Tires
12,5x15" Turbine Wheels
Pioneer DEH-X8500DAB H/U
LED Headlights by badwolflights.com
Rigid Industries Dually D2 Amber
Rigid Industries Dually D2 and Dually on the roof (driving and spot config)
Rigid Indrustries E20 in the bullbar
Replaced the starter for a High torque mini type

The moonvisor/gangstercap got hit by a seagull so a new one is on the way.

My plans for the car is a soft topper for the summer, hard top for winter.
4-6" lift
35" tires

I like those. I have a friend who had one like that. His ran great, but was more rust than metal. The back seat was wide enough to lay down comfortably.

I'm to tall for most backseats, including this one.
It runs great and there is only traces of rust on it.

The tailgate hinge is weak, but i will reinforce it with some 90 degree 2mm pieces of steel.

My friend's was terrible. Tailgate was rusted shut. Holes in the floor boards. Oh and you didn't need a key to start it!

Took the Rigid's off the BE today, put the 20" in the bullbar and the 4 Dually's on the roof replacing the crappy 4-5" 10$ lamps.

And there are three of them in my town alone.
84, 85 and 86. Two Diesels and one 305.
Mine is the smallest at the moment with 33/12,5/15's the other two has 35's and one of them has a 6" lift.
But mine is the only DD.

Got some small stuff done a few minutes ago, found the light socket under the dash and put a LED in it, put in LED panels in the interior roof lamps.
Just waiting for my LED flasher so that i can replace all the filament bulbs around the outside of the truck.

Got some goodies for it today.
54" LED lightbar 300W eBay cheapo, but it should get the job done
Defa LINK batterycharger, cab heater and block heater with Android/IOS control via GPRS/GSM network. Enables me to set the timer on the go, check battery voltage and inside/outside temp.
Basically the same as in the BE, but instead of a short range radio remote it goes by phone networks.

Turns out that the coolant is a bit thin in the truck, half the radiator was frozen when i got off of work.
-30 was a bit to much, was worried that it was the thermostat/waterpump since it showed signs of overheating.

Took it into the shop, let it run and pull warm air trough the heater core and radiator and it was back in working condition.
Coming Wednesday i will buy a 4litre jug of coolant concentrate and replace it.
Also hooked up my block heater so that i keeps some temperature while I'm at work.

Going to take some wiring and mount the 54" bar, install the battery charger and cab heater.

I have never seen led headlights on one of these before? I recently put two LED driving lights on my wagon and love the amazing light output!

They are great, just need to wire the second set of lowbeams on the upper pair :)

Cold as hell today, -30C needed two cars to get it running, the old mans Sunny, and a Hilux Arctic truck. Spent an hour getting it to run.
Once it started running the radiator was frozen again, added some coolant concentrate to deal with the problem.

Got the car up to work, changed the flasher relay, replaced the front side indicators, installed the Link. topped up the fluids.
Fixed the front differential breather hose, replaced the right battery with the Odyssey PC1400 from my Subaru to help out with the cold weather.

Also replaced the glow plug relay so now i don't have to pop the hood each time I'm going somewhere.

Ordering new plugs and two batteries next month.

Shows me if it's plugged in, battery voltage, pickup times, inside/outside temps.
All i need to control it is internet connectivity on my phone.

Been having some trouble with the cooling system lately, fan belt went to hell in Russia, found a replacement at 8PM local time.
Limped home since my waterpump was running on low rpms.
Replaced all three belts this weekend, yesterday the heater hose decided to let go so i cooked it once again.
Cut out the broken part of the hose and filled it up again.
Now I'm having issues with the heater blowing cold when idling or driving on flat surfaces or downhills. It only gives me heat in the uphills.
Tried bleeding the system for air with no success.
Temps are stable at around 150F, then it kicks up to 200F at times and i get warm air in the vents.
Don't really know where to go from here. Any thoughts?

Parts are stacking up waiting for the summer to come round.
Fel-Pro Sealed Power Gasket set (HG's waterpump, intake, exhaust etc)
ARP Head studs
Engine Oil cooler lines
Power steering lines
Brake cables
Lights etc.
Ordered a used intake manifold without EGR, and I'm planning on ordering a set of injectors, glow plugs and some fuel lines.
Get rid of the pesky EGR and get back some power while i change the head gaskets.

Won a couple grand on the track the other day so a lot of parts are changing continent as we speak.
A set of glow plugs, set of reman injectors with marine nozzle(better spray, more hp) GMC Jimmy branded tailgate panel, GMC Jimmy door nameplates, K&N Oil filter and air filter, front & rear diff cover seals, OTC Injector socket, precut tint with 35% door windows, 5% around the back, a new wiper/turnsignal/cruise switch/lever and new mirrors.

Postponing the headgasket swap until i get the manifold and injectors/plugs since it's easier to change all that once the heads are out.

So the head gaskets, injectors, glow plugs and air filter is changed.
Runs good, no cooling issues anymore or any leaks.
Except the fuel filter housing, but that will arrive sometime in the coming week.

Currently running it with clean water with just a dash of coolant to avoid rust, doing a minor fluid service next weekend.
Engine flush and coolant flush.

Oh dear Lord! That thing has the 6.2 diesel? Those things suck balls over here. Most guys get a gas motor or convert them to a different setup like a Duramax or a Cummins.

Looks really nice though! I like it. We dont see many around any more.

I chose diesel because of the mileage and reliability. Once i now got caught up with previous owners neglect it's solid.
I use 10 liters a day with a massive fuel leak at the filter so i still get around 1liter per 10km.

I do have Russia close for cheap fuel, but knowing myself, i would put a ton of cash into a 350 or bigger petrol engine, and my training is specialized on diesel engines.

With this i will probably just turn up the pressure a bit and bolt a turbo from a 6.5 on it and call it a day.

Huh... interesting. Here in the USA, that engine is on the mechanics top 20 worst even made. At least of what we got. I see one every now and then, but most of them have been converted to 454 big blocks.

I have had a number of 350's, but they are pretty cheap over here, but also super reliable. Well, when you dont take them to the race track... haha. I dont know much of anything about diesel as well.

Being a qualified mechanic with 5+ years on diesel engines helps.
Some of them have their issues with the crank bearings/rams cracking, this is a 93 model so almost all the big issues are gone.
Replacing the harmonic balancer and the timing chain sometime soon to deal with the remaining weak spots.
The only issues ive had with the 6.2 ever was first the starter(was broken when i picked it up) glow plug controller(died this winter) and the headgaskets went because of a heater hose blowing on which lead to the engine overeating.

As long as you let it get up to operating temp before and after putting it under a lot of load it's a solid engine.

Also had a lot of experience with them before i even got mine, been driving vans for my friends on the weekends the last 7 years, never had an issue with those two either.

But to be safe, myself and a friend with another K5 is getting a donor engine out of a 90-93 G20 that we will refurbish and keep in spare, we would get a spare transmission too, but he has a TH400 and i have a 700R4 so if we find them cheap we will probably get one each.

I had a 700R4 in my 89 GMC 2500 4x4. It was nice for freeway, but was geared too high for the city. It was also long as hell, x-cab and long box.

Most of the guys here with big trucks prefer the TH400. I almost converted my 67 Chevy from a truck 4 speed (manual) to a TH300, but I never did.

Sounds like you got a lot done to it and know them well. Blazers them selves are getting rare these days so it's nice to see one over seas that is looking great and driven. Most of them over here are either restored of trashed. Not many that are just drivers.

Yeah, i really just wanted to have it while i was fixing my BE, but i have fallen in love with it. So the BE might go to my brother once i get the engine overhauled. But on the condition that i have dibs on it if he decides to sell it and that he consults me before putting any mods on it.

Got some sweet new stuff today, Brand new Grant chrome spoke wheel with GMC branded horn cap. Took me 2 minutes to put a spinner knob on it, the old one was worn out.
New tail light lenses, new amber corners, door weatherstripping, ventshades for the doors, new headlamp harness, 2x80A relays, ceramic H4 plugs and thicker wiring.
New head lamp switch, new headlight bezels, foot operated dip switch and a new wiper/cruise/turn switch.
Can't wait to tear up the steering column.

Installed the new ignition lock, attempted to change the wiper switch, no luck.
Installed the new Grant steering wheel and a United Pacific spinner knob.
Still have to troubleshoot the horn, found the fuse to be blown, replaced that and the wiring to the steering wheel button.
May have to take the grille of to check for power at the horns.

Repaired the horn, broken tab in the column so the wire would not lock, fixed it with a neatly placed zip-tie.
Replaced the front side marker lenses and the tail light lenses, though i need to replace the internals in the tail lamps.

Been a busy weekend, taking out and reinstalling the fuel filter 4-5 times, just to find another leak, i have now plugged all external leaks with chemical steel, and the internal ones with silicone on the o-rings/fittings.
Going to Russia tomorrow/the day after to fill her up with some nice cheap diesel.

Does not need to be yellow, but the LED's are off-road only, so unless they are E or DOT marked they are illegal. Same with HID retrofits.
The confederate flag fits it, and this country is slightly reverse of the US. The rednecks live up north here :P
