I'm swapping in a phase 1 ej22 from my 96 Brighton into my outback. What would be some parts that I should replace on the engine? I was thinking about ordering new spark plugs & wires, Valve cover gaskets, rear main seal, flew plate, and a thermostat. Is there anything else that would be relatively easy to install, and cheap to replace?

Thanks

Chad

How long has it been since a timing belt? If I were doing it and had the extra money I'd go ahead and throw a new belt, tensioners, front main, cam seals, and check the oil pump screws. Just to be sure she is ready for the next 100k.

First clean it, it's nasty looking... haha

But yeah, thats a good list. and 86brat added to it with good stuff as well.

Get a Gates t-belt kit, they are the best way to go and the best bang for your buck. They use OEM bearings in the kit. Also, make sure you reseal the back of the motor. If the air/oil separator plate is plastic in the back of the motor, get the metal one from Subaru. Thats most of the oil leak problems that Legacys have. You can skip the wires and plugs for nw, if it cost too much, but the belt and rea seals you should do now.

ther then that, you got a good list going. :smt023
