I have a 97 lgt with a 02 wrx drivetrain. Everything is great with it besides a vss issue. My ecu is not getting the signal from the cluster. My plan is to overlay a new wire straight to the input at the ecu, my question is what wire in what plug on the back of the cluster is the vss output to ecu?

Which speed sensor are you using? your car uses a 2 wire vss and 02 wrx uses a 3 wire vss. Make sure your using the 2 wire vss on the transmission assuming your talking about manual transmission

I am using the two wire sensor, speedo works fine, just need to know witch plug and wire on back of cluster is the vss to ecu. Im going to go from that to the ecu, the 8 pulse ac signal gets converted to 4 pulse square wave in the cluster, thats what the wrx ecu wants, i just need to give it to it.

update: i took my cluster out tonight and i found that at the blue plug for the speedo, there are two wires in it and there are about 5 pins in the speedo. i am guessing that if the car were an auto there would be a third wire in the blue wire that would be for the vss output to go to the tcm. so if that is correct i need to know what pin in that connector is the output. does anyone have a auto 97 that can take a look. the plug has a black wire and a white wire i think the auto will have a third wire. if so then ill get a auto connecter and send that third wire to the ecu and my car will no longer be in safe mode!!! full boost with no fuel cut yay. the other solution is to get a wrx 3 wire sensor and give the ecu what it wants and have no speedometer and that would be no good.

Update; after digging through my fsm i was able to find that the AC 8pulse wave does get converted and spit back out of the cluster through connector i10 (long connector behind fuel guage) it is a black wire with green tracer, pin 10. I spliced that and sent a new wire to b134 a1 at wrx ecu (light green yellow tracer) and i was in business. No more fuel cut but i still has a boost variation in 3rd and up. Replaced the vacuum hoses for the boost control circuit and i puta pill from a 05 lgt and it seemed to boost and hold correctly, i will confirm today, test drive was done on icy roads;)
