The ebay headers are back and are priced amazingly if you havent noticed (Buy it now is $182.50  ). However, if you look at the picture on the website, there is like a big ball or something on the one tube, maybe im just being dumb, but what is it?

here's a link to the header: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-I ... otohosting (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-IMPREZA-97-01-2-5RS-EXHAUST-HEADER-2-5L-2-5-RS_W0QQitemZ190001087112QQihZ009QQcategoryZ33583QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting)

are these any good? Or should I say, can they be? I mean how good can a set of headers be for $180 that are made from Stainless...

If they are just no name brand headers that are really made by a reputable company, then I know where I am buying mine :P

They look perfectly fine, apart from the auction having ended.

I've heard the OBX knock off headers are pretty decent. They have a weld and slight fitment problem, but the borlas also need repair after a year, and they won't cover the repair. The fitment I have read is that the two flanges are spaced to close/too far apart so you have to push a bit to get them on.

I have no idea what ball you're talking about. I see the different places where they join from two into one, but I don't see a ball?

Those are the borla knockoffs. Same materials, same design, etc...and most people like the build quality too. I'd say go for it at that price, what's the worst that could happen?

Well, actually, the worst is that it could be a copy of one of borla's early revisions and it blows welds

PLWT- it looked like a ball to me at first quick glance, but its not and your right, its just where they're welded together. i wish the had more pictures. Hopefully their still around next week so i can pick them up and add them to my install day.

The big ball looks like an expansion joint.

How much of a deal are they when they are down to $135????? Its less than springs for me now, and I may just do it.

I'm assuming that this header will fit any 2.5L, including my 2002 Legacy Sedan Automatic. Will it?

Whoa that is a good price! I'm with ryankenn if anyone can verify fitment (9 available on that auction)? I have an 01 GT. I imagine they should fit any SOHC 2.5?

Yeah, header design was the same through 2004.

has anyone experience with those headers? cause they're again on ebay.... and I consider buying them.

Anyone knows if they fit every n/a EJ engine? (EJ20, EJ22 EJ25).
I'm wondering why the 17183 Borla headers are advertised as fitting only post '97 2,5 liter engines :?: Some people like i.e. bella have them yet on 2.2 1st gen. Legacy..

2.2's you'll have to check if you have a dual port or a single port. Borla makes a different header for the single ports.

I have the knockoffs on mine, and with the 2.5" catback the sound is just oh so right. It's even quieter than stock when idle (lower tone, with a pulse), it has a deep boxer rumble from 1-4k and 4k-redline it's a nice baritone bellow.
Very unique sound IMO. Cruising at 70mph, the exhaust is just slightly louder than the wind noise.

I've had both the borlas and the knockoffs, the main differences are that the borlas use mandrel bends, the knockoffs use pressbent, the knockoffs don't use stainless but a thicker walled pipe (probably the reason why you haven't heard one of these things cracking yet). Welds are ok on the knockoffs, its a little rough on the inside at the collector though. Flanges are thicker on the knockoffs than the borlas. Basically, you give up a little bit of flow for the thicker pipes.

i found a used set of borla headers that im thinking about picking up, but they are around the price of the new ebay knockoff's, should i buy the borla's because of the mandrel bent, or just buy the knockoff's and pray for the best?.

PS: the first owner of the borla's had egt bung put in that was later welded shut. they're also one of the newer gen's and there is no cracks...

The knockoff is the same design, and should also be mandrel bent. It's cheaper because:

A. You're not paying for the Borla Name
B. The engineering has been done for them.

It's made out of the same materials, and should be just as good as the Borla.

Also beware of the older borla designs as they tend to crack & stuff. I'd go new, because they've apparently fixed the problem.

Jessica, have you had any problems with yours yet?

i had just read the above, but after looking at the ebay site, they do say manderal. i guess the ebay ones would be too bad then... however the borla's are alittle cheaper, $175.

sounds like speculation honestly. If they're going to use the Borla design, they're not going to do that kind of junk.

Well, my webspace is currently down so I can't upload the pics, but here's the thread on the "other" Legacy site ofthe knockoffs I currently have installed on my car:

http://legacygt.com/forums/older-legacy ... ht=headers (http://legacygt.com/forums/older-legacy-performance/36987-cobb-tuning-vs-obx-2.html?highlight=headers)

Middle of the thread;if someone with an account there can u'l the pics somewhere where everyone on SLI can see it, it would probably help with the discussion.
