Welcome to the forum BigBen! Your dad is a pretty cool guy.

I'm planning on helping him rebuild the motor. He can swap it into my legacy for his first car. I hope he can learn a lot from every one here. I'm so proud of him. He already started tearing the ej25 apart.
I love seeing Subie fever become a generational thing.

This is basically how I got hooked over 20 years ago. Helping dad work on the old 84 wagon in the driveway. Been a nut ever since.

I will make sure Ben starts a build page to keep everyone up on his progress. The engine was replaced due to really bad rod bearing noise. After tearing it apart "which he accomplished with just a little help and direction" the rods seem to have no excessive play and there appears to be no damage. It is rebuildable next step he will clean everything up then get the parts he will need to rebuild. Its going to take some time but he has 2 years to get it done

Someone could have missed diagnosed a failing timing belt tensioner as rod knock, wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

Ill be sure to check the tensioner. That will be nice. Too bad the engine has already been fully disassembled.

Nothing wrong with it being disassembled lol, it's a great learning experience either way.

Yeah. It will be nice to have a freshly built motor. The fun part is going to be making an 06 ej25 work in a 95 legacy with the ej22

O_O;; It shouldn't be TOO bad as long as you can swap all the sensors and get good readings =) good luck and welcome
