Gas smell while idling

Im not sure if it is just my legacy but just recently I and my buddy noticed a gasoline smell in our cars while idling. Sometimes it is stronger than others, it usually happens at idle (not moving). Im just curious to find out what it is and if Im damaging anything. Not to mention my car has no problems and is running better than ever at 46k! Let me know what you what you guys think and if you found anything out.

if you smell gas, you have a leak somewhere. can you tell if its coming from the front or the back of the car?

If you smell gas, that means either your high/low pressure fuel lines are leaking or most commonly, that one of your injectors are leaking. You can usually tell if a injector is leaking by seeing a puddle in a valley somewhere. You can rent a fuel pressure gauge that goes on the regulator at autozone.

If it happens when youre not moving why dont uou get out of the car and start looking? And smelling

I gave the car a whole look over, no leaks with the fuel delivery or in the engine compartment. All the lines are dry. Im just puzzled what could be causing it. Injectors are all tight. I noticed it is blowing through the vents and could possibly be misleading.

Fuel line clamps are loose or damaged. Give them a few turns with a phillips.

Even though there is no visible fuel leak vapor is escaping .. common issue even on post 2000+

Thanks for the info, is it just the clamps up front by the fuel filter and on the right of the intake manifold?

All the clamps from the firewall -> fuel filter -> fuel rails

Thanks a lot guys, I was just making sure that it was not harming my legacy. Im sure new rubber fuel line couldn't hurt as well.

I had the same issue after buying my new legacy wagon. My supervisor/ subi guru told me to tighten all fuel lines in front of the firewall, I didn't pull the intake manifold to get the last two but I tightened the others and it stopped the vapor leak instantly.

I really dont smell it anymore, I tightened all the lines up and it is also spring now. Im not sure what did it but the problem is fixed.

Yeah you have to tighten all the fuel line clamps. Its a common thing on these cars....
