https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/01/Z0AO6qp-1.jpg
Totalled it less than 5 months later after someone put there left turn signal on and turned right :smt021 Damage was worse all the way down the side. and to top it off I had it back for less than a week after getting the DEALER to install new headgaskets :smt011
Got an insurance payout and 8 months later of looking online for one everyday I Bought this even cleaner
Bone stock 1999 2.5GT 5spd with 130,000km , this sweet find really made me feel better :)

Traded it in cause I had no real full time job for 4 of the 6 years I owned it and it needed practically EVERYTHING replaced. So very very sad to see it go
(but the body and interior were both still 9/10)
So I traded in for this. 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Wagon in Brilliant Silver Metallic-BSM

Thanks :)
I miss my 2 old BD's but the 4th gen's are a sweet upgrade. Mainly miss the 5spd's
I daily drive it but only do 10k km a year so picking one up with low mileage was sweet
They don't make legacy wagons anymore so picking up a clean last gen wagon is rare

Had a familiar awesome moment in the legacy just now
2 young guys were in a POS corrola behind me at a light and I could read their lips talking about "what kinda car is that?"
They started squirming in their seats trying to see more of the car and when we went around the corner they were both checking me out through the side windows :)
my car stock is absolutly nothing special, theres tons of them on the road in other colours
But a little plasti dip, tint and de-badge makes the heads turn for sure

and a trunk full of my old BD legacy stuff. I'm keeping the JDM tails cause I could see myself buying another BD someday and the JDM tails are 100% necessary for BD's

Goodbye seatbelt chime! :)
I used the method:
-key to on (not idle/ running) just on
-within 30seconds buckle and unbuckle the drivers belt 20 times
-turn car off
Now when u turn it on it will only chime 6 times and stop for good, and not come back when u unbuckle.
The passenger side is also turned off now, no need to repeat for that seat/buckle
I have always driven with my belt on, it feels too weird without it on even just going down/around the block
It's just always been annoying, when u get out of the car but leave it running it just won't stop dinging! Not anymore :)
YouTube "subaru seatbelt" if you want to see many vids of ppl doing this

Here's a quick shot of my car at work
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/04/5YgfyGH-1.jpg\
Recently got an oil change
changed the engine air filter
and found 20+ sweet little cracks in one corner of my front bumper (pics tmw)
I remember coming into the driveway hard and hitting the snowbank during the winter...
looks like thats what I get. :P
I'll have to cover it up with the new lip I wanna buy this summer
iampetro

Well twice this winter i drove into the snowbank at the end of my driveway instead of pulling into it
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/04/npFk762-1.jpg
Last time I looked, the spot on the left still had mostly paint cracks but it seems like they fell off in a giant patch and now there's a grey triangle of unpainted bumper skin. good thing the car is silver
clearly the EZlip took it hard too
I dont really plan on doing anything about the damage, its not that bad
I'm going to order one of the new Bayson R 05-07 US legacy bumper lips. Might cover up the damage a bit
Finally they made a bumper I can buy that will fit right out of the box

Over spray in cracks and the couple parts where my coats weren't heavy enough were the tough parts
I think I'm going to re-do the black I had on that stupid chrome bar above my license plate

Maybe there will be a local show we can show of our wagons together.
There's this new cars and coffee thing at the CTC tmw and I was gonna go with a few other NCSC members but I have go help my parents now, so I'll miss most of it and likely wont go late.
If it goes well and nobody drifts, races, or crashes in the parking lot hopefully there will be a few more

Turn out wasn't bad i would say 30 cars showed up due to weather and i know a lot of people are turned off because officer casey was hiding behind a corner giving lots of people tickets for "improper exhausts and etc" so it was smaller but still saw some pretty crazy cars that roam ottawa. Trackwerks was out with the new STI. not a lot of subbies though. maybe another time.

Found some old pics of my first LGT
The first car I learned to drive was the '02 oldsmobile Alero seen in the pic.
It was a super rare 5spd my parents special ordered(took awile to come in) and very fun to drive at 16
It was about a year old when we drove it to florida and the dash just died out of no where. Had to drive super careful in another country with no speedo, gas guage, radio, A/C
Then when I was finally using it in high school the transmission lost reverse. You would put it in reverse and the second you gave it gas it would slip left into fourth gear and go forward lol. Parking was fun for a month before that was fixed. it was on a 4 year lease and in the end they got rid of it
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/07/TODBSYt-1.jpg
My parents got a second car before I got mine since there were 3 of us driving and I wanted lots of seat time.
It was the '05 Civic si coupe 5spd seen in the pics
it was honestly the slowest worst car our family's owned lol. the alero was totally faster (but less reliable)
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/07/3VXKzXZ-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/07/kSbtoUF-1.jpg
I got my car and then we had 3 cars with
-silver
-5spd
-16" alloys
-sunroofs
-spoilers
-fog lights
-power everything
it was our own little fleet and it was nice at the time
and clearly I had the oldest, nicest, and fastest car of the 3
and now a little carnage
its hard to see how mangled it really is but it was bad. It also had the window stuck open and of course there was a great Canadian blizzard that night...

other side looked nice
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/07/ThnU2i6-1.jpg
I kinda wanted it to be a write off so I'm glad they didn't try and repair it.
It just sucked that I got to only drive 548km with my newly rebuilt engine

Dam! You need a medical reason to have tint that dark in my neck of the woods!
iampetro
07-04-2014, 08:40 PM
lol. Thanks for the appreciation.
The tint is more than double illegal... limit is 35% on rear windows and no tint on the front doors or windshield. im at 15%
If a cop gave me crap about it I don't think any excuse would fly but for now I just roll the windows down when they are around. Its also a wagon so more windows need a dark tint
In our city of almost 1 million they don't waste time with tint very often. Maybe if It was a small town I'd be in trouble
I also drive +95% of the time in the day so night visibility is never a factor and I use my mirrors like a boss :)
I love the tint. I have some at home I plan on using for a little strip at the top of the windshield
If you notice almost every one of my pics has the sun visors down in the front windshield
I wonder what the production numbers on 5speed Aleros were... That's actually pretty cool in my book.

Thanks, that's a great question.
In high school there were probly 5 guys driving their parents Alero's and anyone I talked to wouldn't believe it was a manual 5spd without seeing it.
People were always shocked at how fast it could be and it taught me all my lessons on how NOT to drive
I had my LGT for 1 week and the next weekend I wanted to take the alero out for the night just for fun.
I actually pulled over 2 minutes later and drove home to switch cars back to the LGT
Forward wheel drive cars and cornering never felt the same after that :smt007

Well after 1.5 years of dealing with my Head gaskets dripping oil slowly I had them fixed. Thanks alot Subaru....
I'm only at 95,000km and the 25K ive done on the car have been very easy on it.
I got
- New HG's both sides
- New valve cover Gaskets
- New timing belt + tensioners and all components
- New AC and Alternator belts
- New spark plugs
- New Battery Terminal Contacts(old ones were covered in corrosion from the old battery)
- Re-sealed a rim with a slow leak were the rubber meets alloy
- New OEM Subaru long life coolant + new oil
- Breaks cleaned and inspected, Given the OK and updated expected life of them.
All done by Subaru Specialist shop http://www.rochdrouinautorepair.com/
Almost 1hr(all highway) away from home, Twice as far as the dealer but it was worth it.
On a 2.5 N/A Subaru it's pretty much all general wear and tear stuff and the car has been on the road almost 9 years.
I bought my Forester from him back in September so we had met before and you deal directly with the owner there.
I got a free loaner '05 impreza outback with 135K km on it for the 2 days he had my car at his shop, something the dealer would never do for me. The loaner made me appreciate my legacy's so much more. I had about 3hr's of seat time in it and I wouldn't really want to go back. No armrest extension like my FOZ, sound system sucked, And apparently I don't like outback style suspension because it was way more bumpy than my wagon. No Tint sucked too.
Pics of it

Shit damn I hit a HUGE box on Huntclub today. broken down it was 3'x4'ish and heavy duty cardboard
I was doing 90 and it was flat(ish) on the road until the truck in front of me went over it. I never saw it coming
In half a second it raised and full impacted my bumper spinning threw the air
There are now many more cracks at the bottom of my bumper but from the sound it made it could be much worse
The impact sounded like cracking and something breaking and I fully expected the bumper to be cracked in half
or missing a hole or chunk but its all still there... just not as pretty as earlier today :smt011
Took this pic an hour before it happened

Why does the only gas station I drive by on my way home, The closest gas station to my house, have to suck
I pulled in and started pumping but it sounded weird, like the pump was dying or low?
anyways I was on E so I was filling up all the way and it didn't stop till I smelt gas and saw it was coming out under my car!
It never stopped itself and came out in my rear pass wheel well, all over my RA flap and tire and other stuff
Now my car is SO FULL of gas...

I just bought a set of these tail lights off eBay
I cant wait to get them, I think they are pretty rare (maybe JDM but I think they are EUR)
they look good on the silver and will be different from everyone else
Might require some re-wiring since brake and signal are switching up and down but that aint no thang

I got confirmation of shipping on Monday and was checking another part from the same seller today and there is a disclaimer saying they are away until Oct.16 and not processing or shipping orders in that time.
YAY! what great timing, I would not have been happy if I tried to buy them today

so my tracking said they were shipped and today they arrived in Canada
cleared customs and are now on their way to my location
I'm the shipping/receiving manager at my work and have my own office beside the back door so I have everything shipped to work
All the regular drivers know and like me and my work involves VERY fragile items so they take extra good care for me
I'm guessing I'll be driving home from work sometime next week with fancy new tails installed before I leave
On a side note Monday I dropped an object similar to a 10lbs disk weight directly on my big toe.
Not broken but I can still barely walk. They needled through my nail to drain the blood
I have size 14 feet so my swollen big toe is now HUGE

Got my JDM tail lights today!
When I saw them go on ebay for $95 each I had to jump on them
It was too good a deal on such rare tail lights, I didn't want to spend the money but couldn't say no
I've never seen another set in person so I get to be the only one around here with them :)
They came with pig tails but I reused my stock ones with the slightest modifications needed.
I got 1 amber turn buld with the new set but the other socket was empty.
My stock turn signal bulbs are clear so right now I have 1 amber/1 clear. Need to buy an amber bulb tmw

The need for snow tires was really starting to weigh heavy on my mind.
We NEED them cause come January we will be transporting precious back seat cargo
I was willing to spend whatever it cost but obviously don't have a lot of extra money.
I know buying new could easily run me $1K and I wanted dedicated rims too
I have seen lots of LGT rims with winter tires for sale but all way over priced and I was trying to hold out for that perfect, stars aligning deal
and it happed
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/11/epRaSTNpng-1.jpg
I met the guy 10min away from my house and within an hour of the ad being up I had these in my possession
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/11/XUGjRAk-1.jpg
The ad says "a little banged up" but they are in better shape than my stock rims.
They just need a good clean (but not that good as you can see from the pics)
They aren't a fancy name brand tire but they will probly only see 1K-2000km of use this winter so I'll see how they hold up
around here people are usually listing LGT rims (no tires) for around $300-$400 so I'm super happy with this deal!
iampetro
11-03-2014, 06:40 PM
Noice!
Thanks!
seriously killer deal
I just went out to the garage and gave them a complete look over
no bends, cracks or major rash on any rim. all center caps there
the tires still have the little nubbins on the sides so they must be very gently used
theres tons of tread and they are all holding air fine.
No hidden screws/nails, no plugs that I can see
no surprises
I can't wait to get these suckers on!
Last year my car was undrivable in deep snow. it just wasn't safe

Stupid Ebay
I ordered 2 turn signal bulbs for my JDM rear tails
My stock ones used clear bulbs and the JDM's only came with 1 amber bulb
I ordered 2 chrome bulbs that light up amber. The perfect look for clear lens lights
But today I receive 1 bulb in a box
The seller has good feedback so I expect they will just send me my other bulb, I just sent an email to them
Now I have 2 amber bulbs in my lights so that's good and finally legal again.
They just don't match and behind clear lenses you can clearly see the big ugly amber bulb

-The ebay seller is sending me 2 more bulbs free and they should be here any day now
-I absolutely love my tail lights!

Its +8C here today and the weather is great. First thing I did was put up the Christmas lights outside
And I decided to put on the winter tires and rims.
The 225/45/17's vs my stock 205/50/17's don't feel like they are rubbing and everything seems good
They drive super straight and I just couldn't be happier with them
But my stupid socket for my impact gun doesn't fit on the LGT 17" rims so I had to do them by hand :(
I also took off my Subaru wheel lock set and put the 4 normal lug nuts back on.
Before I did my winters I installed my other chrome bulb in my tail light
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/11/nYyd1ZA-1.jpg
Since the seller only sent me 1 of 2 he sent me another 2 for free so now I have a spare

iampetro
11-25-2014, 07:36 AM
when I got home yesterday I turned the tap to the front on and went back and turned it right off afterwards
Not looking forward to having to pay for some wash's this winter :(
The chrome bulb-
I believe you legally have to have your turn signal light up amber or red where we live.
My stock bulb was clear behind the amber plastic of my old tail lights
I got a free amber bulb with my tail lights but it was only 1 so I needed another
The chrome/mirrored surface inside the tail light housing made the amber bulb more noticeable
because of the mirror, it filled the inner reflector with the amber colour.
Now the chrome bulb lights up amber colour but has a reflective surface and it is far less noticeable when looking at the tail light
The chrome bulbs cost the same as the amber ones (ebay shipped 3 to my door for $3.20)
It really just achieves a cleaner look for very little cost.
There is a '98 BD L 5spd with 160K km for $800 on kijiji right now
Looks clean, burgundy colour. sooooo much want but totally not gonna happen :(

The car guy curse
My wife's dad is out of town
it's -20something celsius outside, -30something with the wind chill
And my mother in law texts me that her battery is dead in her car at work...
It's the original battery to their 2009 Nissan versa (yuck)
Once I got to the car, taking it out and driving to get a new one and putting that new one in only took less then 40min but at the end of a work day... on a Friday... In the crazy cold windy open parking lot... It wasn't much fun
I'm sure I'm not the only SLi'er who's found themself in a similar situation :)
Also
My new (used) 225 wide winter tires vs my stock 205 no-seasons contact the frozen crap built up in my wheel wells when I'm turning much more then last winter when I was still rocking my 205 no-seasons.
All is forgiven every time I hit the breaks and it stops like a real car on real tires should :)

Thanks and yes, going from my 2nd gen to this 4th gen was a sweet upgrade
Sadly I had a 2nd gen GT but my 4th gen is only 2.5i... no turbo for me
I'm over on LegacyGT.com all the time and it really seems like theres at least 3 ppl a week over there blowing up their stock engines
Reading the problems the stock tune has and how almost all of the 4th gen turbo engines blow up makes we wonder if I'd ever even want one
maybe If I could get one aready blown for 2ish grand it might be worth it and just have it rebuilt for myself and skip loading the stock tune and go custom

i've just spent hours tracking down all my old pics, saving them to my computer and uploading them to a new image hosting site imgur
I had imageshack for over 7 years and they went pay to use so I had been using facebook to host pics but they would constantly disappear from my posts.
This is the 3rd or 4th time ive had to completely go through my journal editing all my image posts and hopefully this was the last time

Today I drove my BP to the bank and payed it off
It feels so good to not have car payments
And now I can start saving for my next subie
With the amount I dropped on my BP today I could have bought so many of the cheap 2nd gen legacy's that are FS online right now.
There's even a black '99 SUS that I want soooo bad but I told myself no 3rd car until the BP is payed off

Back in '07 I submitted some pics of my car to SubieSport
The only Subaru magazine that I know of that ever existed.
I was on my 2nd BD and the magazine was building a BD and featuring the build in every issue
I hoped to get into the readers rides and I did!
Only problem was that apparently I used an old hotmail email created with a fake name, Rett Yerty lol
I'm pretty sure I had my real name at the end of the email submission but they went with Rett
Who knows, maybe it was the crazy name that helped get me in the mag

No pics of the car since they are just the same 17" LGT rims
So I have my 17" LGT rims on my wagon
The forester has the red 16" rims on it
And I also have these 3 sets of Subaru rims in my garage
2 sets of 16" JDM SF5 rims 1 with winter rubber, 1 with summer
And the set of 17" LGT rims with winter rubber I just took off my car today.

So after battling with RBC for 1 month and 1 day my final car payment for the remaining balance came out today.
They were terrible at such an easy task of paying off my open loan. It was a nightmare but its done and car is officially mine.
Yesterday I hauled a bunch of 24"x24" patio stones in the wagon
It looked like my rear end had a 4" drop. I should have taken a pic.
I'm going to do an oil change very soon and change my front and rear pads & rotors shortly after.

The legacy hadnt seen any service since last summer
And It needed an oil change and the recall for brake line corrosion
So I brought the wagon into the dealership today.
It got a nice annual checkup and was given a clean bill of health.
The lines wearnt corroded and I knew that but now i have checked it with them and if anything happens down the road I'll be covered.
When does that ever happen at the dealership? They always seem to find something.
I was nicely complimented on it
and while I was there I picked up 3 oil filters so I can change the oil in the forester.

Yeah, when I took my 09 in for the recall it checked out fine. But the dealer told me my front cv boots were leaking and they recommended replacing both front axles. I had a friend re-grease one and put a new boot on it and the other we just tightened the clamps since it wasn't leaking bad.

Future mods I'm a little uncertain about.
Maybe spats but I'd have to ditch my EZ-lip side skirts, and I don't really want to do that.
I'm thinking new speakers maybe next summer but its no where near a priority.
And as far as maintanence, I think what I thought was heat shield rattle might be a failing component from last summers timing belt replacement. Either a pulley or idler or something, I really should have the car in somewhere to have it looked at.
Just put the winter tires on the legacy today
I took advantage of the nice-ish weather so I didn't have to freeze my fingers.
Also moved the brush and scraper into easy access spots.
Good to go now for when snow hits.
I rode in the back seat of it for the first time ever this week. Lots of room for my 6'4 frame to sit behind my 5'5 wife in the drivers seat.

I've never had one or even used one in someone else's car so they are very new to me.
I kinda like it. I don't program where I'm going but it's fun to just have it on map mode when I'm driving around.
My wife who uses the legacy primarily loves it so that's what matters
I like my install location and next summer I'll probly drill a hole behind where the unit is so I can run the power cord discreetly to it.

So this afternoon as i'm backing out of the garage I notice one of my headlights is out
I go and knock on it a few times but nothing.
Its on the side that I hit a big box on the road a few years ago and this had happened once before
Last time I opened it up, tightened it and was good to go
So tonight when we are leaving my wifes parents house thats 1hr out into the country I go to warm up the car and neither headlight comes on
I tried smack'n em around but beating them up wasnt going to work. my nearly 4 year old bulbs are probly dead
Then I got to drive the hour back with only high beams... yes sorry I was THAT guy on the road
I've never been flashed by so many high beams in my life
Some people got a courtesy no lights flash from me but its -20 something, foggy and theres not 1 overhead street light
I probly passed 50 on coming cars and at least 40 gave me a flash or just switched theres on to punish me
I had no one in front of me the whole time except at one point some pick up pulled out of a driveway
Then they decide to do barely 60 in an 80 zone and the second I passed them they sped right up on my ass
so all in all a fun drive home :thefinger:
And I guess I have to buy new bulbs tmw

I replaced the headlight bulbs today.
Stupidly I started with the side blocked by the battery and I dropped the bulb cover/cap into the depths
Then the other side the socket looked a little warped/melted and it wouldn't let go of the bulb.
I had to pry it and the socket was kinda in 2 pieces after... But it still works so good enough for now.
And I still think I have a failing timing belt kit component. Either a pulley or an idler is rattley/noisy
The sound has gotten worse recently so I should probly take it to a shop for a proper diagnosis.
It needs an oil change and a tire has a slow leak so it would be good to get those taken care of.

...also for your noise is not in sync with your rpm?
I actually haven't stood outside with the hood popped and rev'd it up but I'm pretty sure it does
I hear the noise when I'm outside the car (all the time, not just on cold start)
It sounds like a tiny little jackhammer type noise and it happens when it's idling and the engine does its little turn over thing that all automatics do when idling.
I assume one of the timing belt kit components (like an idler or pulley) that I had put in summer of 2014 was defective and failed early. It was a few months after the work that I heard a faint sound but have been so busy the past year with our new son I just ignored it. Now the sound has gotten to the point that I need to get it looked at.
I'm all ears if anyone understands what I'm saying and has any input/experience with a similar noise / failure

I just ordered Brake pads and rotors and I'm going to get the brake fluid changed
In addition I need 1 winter tire fixed (slow leak/bad seal)
And I'm going to have the garage poke around and see how the old girl's doing
Since it became my wife's and sons primary car it no longer has the showroom clean interior I strived for when I was driving it. There's stains on almost every seat now and sunscreen in the fabric here and there. I really have to take a weekend to restore its glory.

So when I need work on the car done i have a few options.
Simple stuff I do myself.
Subaru specific stuff I go to the dealer
Subaru specific stuff that's really expensive I go to the shop that did my head gaskets
And basic car stuff I go to a place 2 blocks away from work <-most convenient shop
I've brought 3 different cars to the shop close to my work, going there fr probly 8+ years
I call them today to book my brakes and they say they don't install other people's parts :/
I asked for a quote from them to do my brakes and he said he'd call me back
20 min later I sent them an email asking why they won't install my parts
Is it that they just won't warranty there parts because they didn't provide them?
That's fine, I bought quality parts and am having a quality garage install them. I'm sure I won't need the warranty.
2 hours later I get an email from them with no response to my question.
Only a well detailed quote for the brake work showing me that the parts cost from them is more then double what I paid
I get it, they mark up the parts and mark them up again to make up for the warranty
That's the whole reason I bought the parts myself.
I'm totally fine with the labour they say the would charge for the job in the quote.
Did I just catch someone who woke up on the wrong side of the bed?
I called 5 min after they opened and the phone rang 10 times...
The place is top notch. 23 reviews on google, 4.8star rating
And I've been going there for so many years
I know they do custom work, so how is this any different?
If I bought an exhaust or rims or big brake kit would they not install it for me? Cause I know they do that.
Any way I need the oil change bad and need my 1 tire fixed so I'm bringing it in on Thursday and I'll talk to the owner and see what's up cause that phone call first thing in the morning really pissed me off today.

07-21-2016, 09:42 PM
So I had the car in the shop today
Talked with the owner and although I don't agree with it, it's his business and if he wants to turn away work for such a strange reason then that's his choice. He said they used to do brakes people brought in but had a few cases of people bringing cheap parts that didn't fit properly or were for the wrong vehicle. Sucks for me and I wanted to tell him how stupid it was but I didn't want to burn my bridges with one of the better shops around so I'll just go somewhere else for my next oil change and have them do the brakes.
The shop did fix my rattle though :)
It wasn't a failing timing belt component, it was the heat shield at the first cat
So I was pretty happy that was a cheap fix
And I got my winter tire fixed and oil change that I desperately needed
Next I want to replace my cabin filter again. It's been 3 or 4 years
When I drop the glove box to do that I'll run my GPS wire behind the dash and finally finish my GPS install.
This seems to be a growing attitude at shops I deliver to. Not only can they mark the price up on parts, but they run less risk to their reputation and insurance if they install parts they know are correct. Makes it tough on me, since I get a massive employee discount that's under their cost for parts. Only way I can afford to fix mine sometimes.

I know, if it had +200k Km's I'd think the suspension was dropping but with only 108k I don't think that's the case.
And I don't smoke, I just always thought that vent visors gave an aggressive look to any car you put them on so that's exactly the look I was going for. I'm very happy with the cars appearance.
I still have my brake parts and like you said I know I can do them easily so I've been thinking of doing them myself, it just doesn't NEED to be done yet and I can probly get a decent amount of life left out of the current ones.
I look at this car everyday and think of offering the guy $500-600 for it. Then I could be back in the 5spd 2nd gen game :)

Well the legacy will be mine once again :)
Our search for a good tribeca ended and failed
One would have been nice but a minivan just makes so much more sense for our family
We signed for a Black 2017 Honda Odyssey EX yesterday. Brand new just arrived on the truck, has 10km on it
For us it was between the Odyssey and the Sienna(not AWD version)
It was already a stretch to go brand new and we didnt want the price jump to AWD, after owning subarus I dont care for someone elses inferior AWD system + it has run flats with no spare. I dont want run flats and I definitely want a spare just incase. The honda was cheaper on insurance and the dealer knocked the price down a good amount for us
The sienna was great but the odyssey edged it out in almost every comparison
Sienna had more power but you couldnt tell driving the 2 but the siennas steering/suspension was very bouncy and floaty
I watched 5 consumer report/car and driver type type comparisons on youtube and 4/5 gave the win to the honda
the only 1 that toyota won was a winter track comparison with the AWD toyota vs FWD honda. no surprise at all that it won that one
Honda had our exact model and colour in stk where as toyota would have had to order one which could have taken months
The market is so crazy strong for used vans (that aren't dodges) here that any good ones are gone the day they're listed
and because of that market the used ones are really expensive. I dont want to save 25% off a new car to get a 4-5year old one with 80-100K km's
We safely project about 7-8k km's a year we'll put on it so even if we dont like it after a few years we can ditch it and people will line up to buy it with such low milage
Very happy and can't wait to pick it up early next week.
Then I get my legacy back! after 2 years of car seats and crumbs I can't wait to clean it up to my standards
The 3 dealerships I asked all offered $200 trade in for the forester lol
I'm keeping it and might start trying to sell some of the rare JDM parts that I can take off and still drive the car around (spoiler, grill)
The interior in it is beautiful so i thought about getting a single junk yard drivers seat and putting that in so I can sell the interior complete
I dont need to sell it and I dont want to sell it but if i have a 3rd car its gonna need to be a 5spd so its gotta go eventually
Hey, I will never say anything bad about an Odyssey. those are good vans, and have a history of being good.
And, I mean...

is the Foz still running and driving well?
lol, it was
funny story
Yesterday i'm scheduled to pick the van up at 430
while driving to get lunch My AT OIL TEMP light started flashing and didnt stop
all seemed fine dispite the light, and the light came on every time i started the car and didnt go away at any point
but while driving home after work an hour before I take delivery of the van the transmission lost all gears but 3rd ( i assume a default safty mode for the trans since the light was still blinking)
My wifes father was driving us to pick the van up so we could drive home in it together and when we left home to go to the dealership he backed into the forester with his car!
So its like yesterday the forester knew it was being replaced.
I havent inspected the damage from him backing into it yet because i'm afraid to look and i'm not gonna be driving it much until this tans problem is solved...
It's funny that it all happened on the same day we were getting the new car, crazy timing.
And im so happy it all happened after making our choice, if it happened before we would have been more pressured to act fast and might not have been as comfortable with our purchase but we are very happy with our decision :)

I gave the legacy interior a proper cleaning after emptying all the kids stuff out of it. It looks like new again
Driving it to work is sooo much quieter then the forester and it feels much faster
I inspected the forester and the lightbar took the full impact
Where the bar mounts against the bumper there's an impression now but it's really not too bad.
I moved the forester off the street and into my garage and the AT temp light didn't come on so that's awesome
The day it came on we had a record rainfall
I wondered if the rain and moisture led to a random 15 year old wire or ground eventually corroding and giving me the warning light because of that. Could be a stretch but I'll monitor everything for the next while
I ordered some AVS vent visors for the odyssey
$107 delivered to my door compared to the almost $400 the dealer was charging
We just got home and it now has 99km
It's my first brand new car and it still doesn't seem real.

I picked up a set of front driver and passenger weather tec mats today. They're nearly new
Got the guy down to $60 and he was directly on my route home from work so that was perfect.
The summer rims and tires are on and it's riding really good on the road
Quiet and straight and everything tight.
The GPS is in the van now so I re-installed the centre cubby door.
It was cool but I never looked at it and it. It's better off in the family vehicle and I don't plan on getting another to replace it.
I also got a free used gopro I've been using as a dashcam so that's been cool. Haven't caught anything good yet on it though
These days I use the legacy and forester 50/50
Pretty much take each car to work every other day to keep them both running smooth

Today was a productive day for the wagon
Changed the oil. It was 9.5 months old but had only gone 4000km so it was surely due
Used a magic eraser and boiling water to clean the weather tech mats back to day 1 clean. They're perfect
And used my bottle of "scratch doctor" on my front bumper scuff

After 1 application

After 2nd application
The white splotch is a reflection off the ground from the nice mirror effect of the paint
I dropped a bit of the stuff I was using on the ground but it looks like its on the bumper
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2017/05/YucD0Gu-1.jpg
Very happy with the results. Not perfect but it's as good as its gonna get
I tried to fix my sticky hatch handle but spraying lithium grease all up in its business didn't seem to work so that will be left for another day

I changed the engine air filter and the cabin air filter today
They were both pretty bad
Next I need to try detailing it for the first time
I've never done anything but a simple wash to my cars and the wagon deserves some extra love
I'm really enjoying having it back and getting everything back in tip top shape

Another clean bill of health from the shop today
Since I didn't know the history of any major fluids except the coolant (3yrs old) I had it in for all new fluids
Oil
Coolant
Brake fluid
Power steering
Transmission fluid
Front and rear diffs
I think that was it...
It almost felt like it was rubbing on sharp turns in parking lots, that's gone now
The engine and trans seem more responsive
It's good to have my legacy back and it's driving great again so I'm happy

The transmission fluid you replaced was likely causing torque bind, which is the "tightness" you were feeling in tight turns. Only happens on the AT's.
If you haven't done so already, drain a little (like less than a quart) of ATF and pour in a bottle of LubeGard ATF Protectant. It lowers the operating temp of the transmission - which keeps the shifts smoother and quicker, with less heat build up. I've saved at least 8-10 automatic Subaru's this way.

The legacy has felt amazing since the work I had done in september.
More responsive and its a change from that tired old forester
Same old boring backdrop but I took a couple pics today of the rarely clean wagon
