a Little start. This is my 4th legacy. Ive had a couple wagons biut this was the first sedan. My actual car is a 2002 wrx with a few mods

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/02/chrisedit18-1.jpg

So while cruising craiglist Nov 2012 I found a 98 legacy gt with engine issues. It was a factory five speed car. It had been sitting up in the mountains for a few years but seemed to be in decent condition. I picked it up for 1000 dollars. It ran but had a bad mis fire. So i brought it back to my shop. My orginal plan was to fix it and sell it. But after driving it I realized I really liked it. After some love to the interior it was actually a super clean car.

After I finally pulled it in the shop I pulled the engine. The previous owner already had purchased a set of heads that were re furbed. After pulling apart the engine I found that it was just a broken key way on the cam allowing the cam to ove advance 1 tooth. I swapped the heads out and threw it back together. Ran perfect.

I already had a set of h&r coilovers at my shop. so i threw those on. I traded some labor for a set of 17x8 konig privat bbs style wheel.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/02/null_zps2a003465-1.jpg

I picked up a 06 sti lip for it

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/02/null_zps0fc99656-1.jpg

Then I picked up some JDM headlights. Baked them and painted the housings black.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/02/null_zps228f9105-1.jpg

I found a brand new cusco sway bar for the bd/bg chassis. I also picked up a works bell hub( with working cruise control) and some jdm fog lights

So the car has 222k on it. I have a comple ej205 swap that I will hopefully install next week. It preparation I picked up a full harness already merged for the 2002 wrx swap. I also picked up a blitz axle back, genome boost gauge and a few other parts to go with the swap. For now it will be mainly stock. I need to pass ref then it will get a 16g and supporting mods.

Nice looking car but it looks like some of the picture links are broken.. At least they are on my cell phone..

What did the EJ205 come out of, out of curiosity.

I saw "BD5" in the title and expected a Japanese car.... kinda misleading.

I think it may have been your phone. I need to resize the pictures. The 205 swap is considered a 2002. It's actually a 93 wrx block with 2002 heads harness and Ecu. I built it as a smog engine for the Bugeye in the first picture. It was just used to pass smog and pass the smog ref.

Me too... If it was a BD5 it would be a EJ20 RS/GT. Edit it to BD9 (2.5 N/A) and it will be right. :smt023

I like the build though! Looks pretty clean. :smt023 I like the WRX also. Was it converted or imported?

Sorry. Edited. And the Bugeye was converted.

No worries... There are a handful of us that are hard core into model codes.

You should post a MRII tread on your WRX. Would love to see the conversion pics.

When I throw my ej20 next week can I split the difference and call it a bd7?? Hahah. I'll make a thread for the other car. This was my old setup. Running a similar engine still but with a greddy t67 kit

If I remember right, a BD7 is a 2.2... LOL. Even though my BD9 will be getting a new motor, it will always be a BD9. Even with the crazy amount of JDM parts.

Nice spread for the WRX. Looks like it was a fun build.

Got some time today after work to get started on the swap. I got the old engine out. Started prepping the new x member. Dug out some lca. I also modified the steering linkage to adapt the wrx rack to the legacy column. I cut the rack side off the wrx and swapped it to the linkage.

if you are using a GD turbo crossmember, you may have hood clearance issues. There is an STi one in my car and the previous owner a decent amount of hood bracing.

At this moment staying stock. Most likely I throw together a 2006 5 speed that I have at the shop. Or a 6 speed. But have to pass ref before I can go 6 speed. In order to get the swap legal in ca you have to have matching trans and engine.

I got busy with work and haven't been able to get much done. Also was chasing a problem with the wires. No door locks windows gauges and some other problems. After a few hours this past week staring at wiring diagrams and troubleshooting I realized I had the plugs from the seat belt timer and door lock timer swapped. It was a huge headache for something so dumb. So last night I started reinstalling the interior. And some other odds and ends. Also installed my genome defi

Back from the dead. Staring my 6 speed swap this week. Came across a wrecked sti at the junk yard. kind of a unicorn. Managed to get most of the car for cheap. trans alone was only 200$. it needed a tailshaft housing. I had a brembo set up at my shop already. Fronts are on and rears will go on during the swap. Want to get it done next week so i can get it dialed before the track fay at the end of the month. Next month I will install a ej257 to replace the tire ej205

Talk about a complete score! What did you end up walking out of there price wise?

First day i got

Trans, linkage, driveshaft, rear diff, 4 hubs, taillights, cluster, 4 hubs, 4 axles, rear lat links, brand new oem clutch, rear sway, and a few other small parts for 850. i could have saved money by taking off the rear x member that i didnt need but i needed to get back to work. i just went on my lunch to see. I almost didnt go. i typically ride my bike at lunch but all the people i ride with bailed. next day i went back and got engine, ecu and front LCA along with some small stuff for 4 something. engine has a broken t belt and ruined block. but the one head that didnt get any bent valves is the head i needed for my other ej257. All in all after selling the parts I got that i didnt need (like tails cluster and hubs) i will have a pretty much free 6 speed swap.

Curious, why are you going so hard on this yet keep a stock radiator? I would at least upgrade it to something else. I have fitted WRX dual core radiators into legacies no problem. Based on what you've done here I don't doubt that you're capable of doing so.

I've actually been looking at koyo for a first gen legacy. I will most likely get one soon to try out. Just hoping I can keep stock fans. Not a big fan of slim fans. Ive only seen it get warm once and that was after 15 minutes of hot laps on track on a 90 degree day. But in the summer when it's 100+ I've never had issues when I drive.

After I got home from Laguna Seca I drove my ej207 swapped bugeye. I decided I liked how smooth it was and how it drove. I found a v8 ej207 swap. Had it delived saturday afternoon. Installed it and had it going on Sunday along with some KW v3s. Had a minute to drive it around the block before i had somewhere to be. I am happy with my decision. Gonna try to get the AVCS hooked up after work tonight.
