There a few people caravaning down to MD for the SLI MD meet in a few weeks. Any chance you'll join them? I would like to see your car in person.

Not likely. I barely make it to local meets.

Sweet car dude.
I was wondering if you could give me the run down on your brake set up (or just link your build thread I guess).
Also is that a pioneer app radio 2 I spy? I've got one but I've had a hell of a time getting my phone hooked up to it.

Front:
300ZX TT calipers
KNS Brakes adapters (plug and play)
Rear:
06/07 WRX 2 pots
Godspeed caliper adapters (had to some grinding to make them fit)
and all around:
Stoptech pads/blank rotors
Syms Brake lines
Yes, it's an appradio 2. My phone is rooted running ARLiberator, but my phone has seen better days. Most of the time I just use it to listen to my iPod. Once a month or so I connect my phone so I can use the navigation, but I always have to reset my Bluetooth connection. When I first installed it, it was smooth sailing, lately not so much.

Would be interesting. I have seen subies with dual rear 2 pot setups before for drifting, but never seen an oem 4 pot fit on the rear.

Yes. It is a direct plug and play.
Aaand... Now, I hope I'm not just going to make you repeat yourself, but what did you do to attach it? Or is it, as you said before, direct fit?
Also, JDM skirts are looking great. did they come off the same car as the bumper, or did you just get lucky that they match?

Comparing the Nissan switch with the 00-04 Legacy switch, the shape and mounting points are exactly the same. So it appears that you just pop the old one out, then put the Nissan one in and you're all set.

You guys know that Nissan has been manufacturing the window switch modules for Subaru since the 90s right?
The switch requires no modification, just pop the old one out and swap the Nissan one in it's place.
The bumper and skirts are from different cars, just happen to be the same color. And my rear spoiler is the same color, as well as the other piece I have on it's way...

I do now! this makes me wonder what else you can swap... The other door's switches, maybe? to make it all match...

That is funny timing, we were just talking about Auto-close windows at the meet this past weekend since the S401 has it.. I was going to look into modifying a JDM window switch, but this makes it significantly easier!

Well would you look at that, I just found my next modification.
I found it on a thread on lgt.com (so I can't take credit).
I wanted to swap my actual switches to the Nissan unit, but after taking them apart they are a completely different design. Curiousity has me wondering if the passenger side switch has the auto feature too, which would be a nice compliment.

That is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing the info.
As for the pass side auto up, I dont think they have that. Even the Japanese built (JDM) cars dont. I do like the auto up for my GT-B though.
Just wondering... Why dont you get those parts painted up?

Do JDM cars normally have auto up for the passenger side on the drivers switch panel as well? I was under the impression they didn't (at least on the GT-B and S401), but if this has it, maybe the passenger switch may as well?

It will get painted soon, been waiting on warmer weather and all my parts to arrive/get installed. Should have the last part I've been waiting on in the next couple days.

Just the driver side, driver window. So this new switch is pretty cool!

I can understand that. I do just about everything myself. My education is in paint/body and I cant stand multi-color parts, but I can understand painting temps. That can suck when you want to get something done but have no booth to do it in.
Did you work anything out with Red85celica for the rear E-Tune II bumper?
Sadly no. I found a shipping option I was willing to pay for, but he forgot about me and sold it locally. It would have been perfect with my other pieces.
I have some JDM Rear Spats, but I think they are too small compared to the size of the rear bumper. I have some diffuser ideas I'm mulling over trying instead, just not sure they are the look I want either.
Dead91silvia
04-04-2014, 11:38 AM
Oh bummer... He's a good friend of mine and he did say something about shipping it, but I was on the east coast for a bit. Shipping things that big for both of us is a new thing.
I'm sure another will pop up though.
Yeah it's too bad for me.
If I new a couple people that wanted a bumper from Japan to split shipping costs I'd go for it, but for now I'm going to look into something else.
I already paid for my own large container of parts last year, I don't have enough left to offset the cost for just a bumper.

The "plan" is to use the lens and housing from the JDM lights, with the reflector bowl and shroud from my original L lights. Then I can use a normal size bi-xenon projector, oem ballasts and factory headlight leveler motors.
Disassembled both sets of lights today and did a little comparing.

The reflector bowls are an easy swap. The shrouds are going take a little work to make the turn signal and city lights fit/work in the JDM housing.
Picked up a set of base model JDM headlights super cheap (look just like my L lights). The USDM L lights shroud was going to take a lot of fabrication to make the city light and turn signal fit and work right. The base model JDM lights have the same style corner lights as the others I have but will allow for a larger bi-xenon projector.
After work I installed my Cusco Rear Strut Brace

Thanks, I agree. Sometimes painting them cheapens the look. I was only going to emulate the look of the JDM/GT lights, but the chrome is staying.

With as many rare parts as you got, that statement does not compute. Unless you plan to sell it in like 6 months. A decent re-spray can start at $800-1000, at least over here.
Either way, it's your ride. Only matters if you are happy with it or not.

800-1000 isn't going to get me what I would want for a paint job. However, for 350ish and a few hours of my time... I'm happy for now.
I have no idea how long I will have the car for, that depends on a lot of factors. If I keep it long enough to justify a full respray, then I can peel this off and do that. Just isn't in the cards right now.

Fair enough. I think it would look pretty sexy with a fresh coat of green. I had a green BH GT a few years ago and loved that color, so thats part of it. If it was the baby vomit green (light green) anything would be an improvement! haha
What are the next set of plans now?
I've never really liked the green.
Next up:

Install rear bumper/lip (when it gets here)
Finish blacking out pillars/headliner
Finish installing Beatrush roof braces
Rear end work... (maybe new subframe, install Whiteline arms, rwd)

They're Z32 brakes, second-generation 300zx. IIRC, there's bracket kits that make it pretty easy, if a bit expensive.

I got the eyelids secondhand from a guy on uklegacy.com
The z32 calipers were easy. They can be found for about $100, then the bracket is from knsbrakes.com. Runs 06-07 Subaru 4 pot calipers and 05-09 LGT rotors.

I picked up a set of spare corner lights with Blitzen covers on them, but they just showed up this week. They are getting dipped, then trading my old JDM lights/garnish, then installing with the G-Square garnish at the same time. The G-Square garnish is already painted and ready to be installed.

Do you recall what kind of modification? Like was it too long or too short? Or was the piping just all wrong?
I'm looking for something to fill out the rear, in lieu of the hidden "L" turn down exhaust.

The piping was totally wrong. Unfortunately, the shop I took it too didn't just cut up the midpipe, they cut off the flange on both the axleback AND the midpipe and then bent a pipe in between to fit and welded it all together. I was fine with the result until I actually saw it from underneath.
I totally understand where you are coming from about the exhaust. I have a big cutout in my bumper and it just looked stupid with the little "limp dick" exhaust.
Now to decide if I pick up something and have it modified? Or, do I have something custom made?
I don't really want anything loud (slow car is slow). Just want to look nice and fit well with the JDM rear bumper and lip.

Perks of Plastidip. You can install and dip away, and in a short time your new part will be matched to your car! No waiting weeks on end for the body shop to prep the piece, then color match it, then blend it with your 10+ year old paint. I've considered doing my wagon, but idk, i love this color so much! haha

Anyone know if BL/BP carpet will fit in a BE/BH?
Working on blacking out my interior and would prefer oem black carpet to dying/painting the grey/tan 3rd gen carpet.

The mats, or the carpet itself?
The floor mats should fit okay, just not perfectly. The carpet is very different, and is not interchangeable.
Carpet.
Can't find black oem carpet that fits a LHD car.

Considering everything else you've done yourself, I'm surprised you aren't willing to just dye the carpet. It was so easy, even I could do it.
I'm debating it. Just not sure how I want to go about it and mine isn't in great shape to start with.
Recently installed my JDM door sills and door cards. I have most of the plastics already painted black or picked up the black pieces from a JDM SE BH5. Working on a solution for the drivers controls and having fab work done for the Beatrush rear cage so I can wrap the headliner and put the interior back together.

New carpets can be had for fairly cheap. The Beige one is $160, the grey is $175.. since you would likely be dying it black, might as well save a few bucks with the cheaper beige one. SubaruPartsForYou is Dan Perkins Subaru in Milford, CT, so you can pick up from them locally to save on shipping too.

They even have free shipping on orders over $150!
Do I try to Rit dye it? Or use something like dupli-color vinyl and fabric spray dye?

I am not sure if they will ship a carpet, I know they will not ship things like hoods or fenders, and this will be just about as large. My carpet came in a box 6 feet long, and almost 4 feet tall. But, then again, the carpets are not marked as non-shippable. I guess the worst they can say is no, and Milford isnt that far from you.
I have never dyed a carpet, Yama would be able to chime in with that one.
I contacted them about the shipping. The cost came up as ~$60, but the code wasn't working properly. They are about 1.5 hours each way from me.

For the code to work, you have to fill in your address and select "UPS Ground". It showed a discount of $65 for me once I filled it all in.
I thought I did it in the correct order. I'll try it again this afternoon. Thanks!
I ordered grey carpet yesterday. Planning to test out some SEM color coat on the old carpet and if it goes well, I'll spray the new carpet black with it. If not, I'll try the Rit dye method.
Things happened yesterday:
Dropped off BBS lips/barrels for polishing
Oil change
Transmission fluid change

Initial impressions:
car drives much smoother than before (not that it was even a concern before)
acceleration seems to take less effort
cornering feels much lighter/easier
even in the rain breaking the rear end loose takes effort
I topped off with gas on the initial test drive, so in a couple weeks I can report back on how the mileage has been impacted.
Install went smooth and took a little over 2 hours start to finish.
JDM Door switches arrived today.
You can see the different sized front control panels and why they aren't interchangeable side to side. Plan is to cut out the mirror controls and mold them in place of the single window switch. Then relocate the master window controls with aftermarket switches above the coin tray.
Smaller panel is the USDM driver side (JDM passenger)

Mmmmm all that bracing and I'm also envious of your Beatrush roof bracing!
I can't wait until I can get the car to my fabricator this spring to finish installing the roof bracing...
I picked up a new set of winter wheels, with my shoulder still healing I can't do the work needed to finish fitting the LMs before Spring. I've also been researching what it will take to do a full 5x114 conversion. Hopefully that will happen in 2015.

I've got 05 rear hubs machined to fit 08 STI bearings. All I need is a set of KNS gravel rotors so I can keep my parking brake and I can install everything. Based on conversations with the shop that did the machining, it should widen the track around ~3/8" or ~8mm per side.

The US hazard switch is supposed to light up as well, but yours is likely burned out. I have yet to come across a 3rd gen with a functioning hazard switch light at this point, unless the switch was swapped out with a new one (like the red S401 switch here)

Which is a good thing to note. If you go looking for a JDM hazard switch, you're not likely to get the red one like this, as it's a restricted item for the S401 Legacy only. you have to own an S401 to be able to buy one direct from Subaru.

Correct, they are inside. a few people have opened them up and replaced them, but honestly its easier to just replace the whole thing.
The S401 switch (the red one pictured above) is about $40-50 after shipping and whatnot to the US. You will need to swap the plastic bracket from your US switch to convert it from RHD to LHD.

It had a little rust, nothing more than you'd expect from a 15 year old New England car.
I tried to sell it whole for a month, only one looker. Sold it to my buddy last week for a deal so he could part it. Between selling/showing a house and now packing/moving cross-country, I didn't have time to part myself, or I would have.
