oh snap...more problems with the BD

anyways, i just spotted the rack and pinion boot on both sides of the arm is ripped. i just notice it yesterday.

so my question is, replace the boots? or replace the whole rack and pinion?
or is there another way to fix it?

Fix the boots, I think one of those CV boot repair kits they sell for $10 at the local autostore will do. When it starts acting up then replace.

no no no, the rack boots are not repairable. The proper fix is a rack replacement. I would find a way to seal the boots rip to feel dust and moisture out of the gear. if you got the money you need a steering gear assembly, and an alignment for toe. Cv boots will not work. wrong diameters and if it did fit it would me more a pain to change them out then to replace the whole thing, either way you would still need to algin it

i got my car with a tear in a rack boot. I figured id wait until the rack had play before i replaced it. I'm still on the same rack and I got the car in 2000.

but ill be the first to admit that im ghetto.

You can repair the rack boots... many do with success... you just have to catch it early enough before the lack of boot (torn) can cause any damage...

Ditto. Same goes with CV boots.

what type of noise would the rack make if you had to replace it? would it make a ticking/ clicking noise.
