Every time I put the defroster on dirt shoots out from the vent and ends up on the dash board. I tried to get into the box the houses the heater core last weekend and could only remove so much dirt. I was able to do this by dropping the blower motor and reaching my hand in to grab what ever dirt out. I also cleaned the blower motor fan which helped reduce the whistling I was hearing when the fan was on.

I saw there were 4 bolts in the front of the box that the heater core is in. This is where I was pulling the dirt from. After dropping those bolts, and one against the firewall, I still couldn't get the lower portion off. I can't really see behind it but what's my best way of getting in there and cleaning it out?

Any other suggestions in cleaning the HVAC system would be much appreciated!

There's no way to drop the bottom cover from the box? It's way to tight to get a shop vac/hose in there.

Bump.. anyone know of a way to get in there or can confirm it's impossible w/o removing the entire dash?

No need to flirt with me sweetheart, the point of this thread was to see if there was a way to get into the heater core box.

As genius as taping a hose to a vacuum is, it won't do the trick. The hose would basically have to make a full 180 degree bend in a very tight area. It won't clean out that box very well and there's lots of small particles that would get left behind.

Huh.. It could be the lack of sleep.. but it does not look like either the NAISOC or LegacyGT logos are at the top of this page..
