Are those 6-lug Japanese minitruck wheels? (EG: Toyota Hilux/4runner, Nissan Hardbody/Pathfinder)

They are. The old school subarus ran a 4x140mm lug pattern. Very common for people to either redrill the hubs to 6x140mm or redrill the wheels to 4x140mm.

I feel the same way about my old Impreza. fortunately it did live on through a new owner, but he bought it for his teenage daughter so it's probably all pink and hello kitty now.
