i managed to get my grubby hands on a fxt turbo for a solid price... so current parts needed to boost my little engien that cant to around 4-6lbs...

its a 2002 legacy 2.5L phase 2.
i need.....
metal head gaskets off the turbo version
stand alone ecu
larger injectors
lower compression heads
fmic
manifold off a stock 2.5
boost controller to make sure i dont blow my fragile engine.

my goal is 250hp.. not much, but i think my little engine can take it... opinions?

How much are you looking to spend? The 2.5 N/A isn't really the best option to start a builder with. $75 each on headgaskets, $500-$1500 on standalone(probably on the higher side unless you can build a megasquirt), $100 for used sti/wrx injectors, I'm not really sure what heads are going to lower compression on that block, I also don't know FMIC prices, and manual boost controllers can be had for cheap. Once you add all that up, double it for unknown expenses as a rule of thumb for N/A-Turbo builds. I might be more cost effective to do a swap and then build your motor up. I had similar intentions with my 22e that I boosted and ended up getting it all built for about $500 plus a complete doner car but the headgaskets didn't last. Instead of rebuilding that motor I found a good 22t to swap in with my intake manifold and electronics and that motor is getting dropped in next weekend. I can report back on how it runs after that.

$1400 isn't too bad really.

if i could find one paired with a 6mt id be happy i feel like my 5speed would be a light snack for anything over 200hp

Add an extra 2k for that. My five speed was holding fine at 200whp but no launches ever.

I have a standalone I'll sell that will run anything you want for $550 shipped.

First off you can't be concerned too much on cost cause it WILL be a lot more then you plan.

Now to go down your list.
1. You will need a whole gasket kit. not just the head gaskets.
2. Standalone is a smart move. OBDII cars are a little too smart for piggyback. not saying you can't use them but a standalone is a much better option.
3. Depending on the set up you go with will determine what injectors but I would recommend 550cc range.
4. Don't ditch those heads. they are some of the best Subaru has made. Switch blocks. You can find used EJ257 short blocks pretty cheap.
5. No to fmic. Unless you just like the look of them stick with a tmic. Stock STi one if you can find it for a good price.
6. You have a lot of options being phase 2. I would pick up a WRX drive by cable intake manifold.
7. Hallman makes a good manual boost controller.
7. Your 5speed will be fine. On my first build I had around 300whp and beat the crap out of my stock tranny. I replaced it just cause I got a good deal on a 05 LGT. My old tranny was fine though.

You can check out my build because in a way it is similar to what you want to do.

I'm not sure you would. The EJ257 block is very strong, and bolts directly to your heads. I mean hell, even the rods and pistons would be better (and again, they drop right into your block) - but your current pistons and rods will snap real quick due to 10:1 comp ratio and porcelain pistons.

Granny is right - keep your heads and if anything spend a little on cams of porting them. They'll flow great!

You have the potential to make a great build - but just take a step back, you don't quite understand what all you need yet.
You could probably build a nasty build, around 300trq/300hp for around $2500.

You don't need a boost controller for that turbo - it is internally wastegated which means it will regulate the boost it makes on its own.

so search for a ej257 block and bolt the heads on fair enough i suppose.. any pro-tips about those blocks? and the cash isnt the problem.

What do you want to know about the block? Main thing I can say is get a new oil and water pump. Also you might want to go with a aftermarket oil pick up. The STi pick ups crack pretty frequently.

If money isn't an issue, I'd find a 255, or 257 block with sti rods/pistons, sell the turbo you've got and get a td05-18G that will actually make some power, and then start your build from there. Engine management (Emanage ultimate), injectors, and some basic plumbing will have you singing happy tunes really quick!
