Hey guys,
It's been a hot minute since I represented in a Legacy, but I found a GREAT deal over the winter and have been slowly working on it to make it my own. It really didn't require much, a good detail, some deals on some old Rota SDR wheels (discontinued) and 215/55 R17 tires, and generally just a tint job.
So far, I've managed to install the outer rear JDM taillights, and I installed a set of H&R springs from lumpy (previous Baja owner) that were brand new.
The car is pretty fun - no exhaust work yet, but it came with the rare sports shift which means I can drive it like a manual, but my wife can hop in it now and drive too. Future plans include the standard 2.5" midpipe resonated to a 3" "OEM" type tip.
It's nice having the SOHC engine too - instead of the rattly DOHC.
Exterior-wise, it has some JDMish front spats; I think they're actually from a GD WRX model - again, cheapies.
The fender lights are not wired in yet, I still have to splice them in. Polished headlights are amazing!
I did have the lower cladding matched to the white upperbody, I think it turned out pretty good.
Here's a quick pic I snapped of it today outside work - it's the first time it's been outside since I bought it so I could avoid too much snow/salt on it. I figure next winter I'll just pick up an older BK for winter duty.
Mileage so far: 124k
Anyway:

This better not be a joke. Looks gorgeous, man - I really dig the monotone over the cladding. Great work as always.
I would assume that this was a clean car out of Japan if I didn't know you were in OH (my mom's side of the family is from Cuyahoga/Akron). ;)

That's weird, you're right. On US cars, the gas door is on the right side of the car. It's like they intentionally put the gas door as far away as possible. I thought it was on the right on US cars because that is the drivers side in Japan. I guess not.

What are you talking about? The gas door is supposed to be on the right side. The S401 fuel door is on the "driver's side" anyway. I don't think they'd do that for only one car....

I *knew* what was coming today and he still got me - I was wondering why adding moldings and paining them were an offhand thing, and didn't even catch the sportshift reference that we didn't get until the BP's. I had to check and see if he was still in OH or back in NZ.

JDM petrol flap is on a drivers side, and sportshift(tiptronic) started from '01 no?

The picture is flipped.. so the gas flap is on the right side of the car.

Yup, sorry guys, too good to be true unfortunately. Subaru never made an 01 outback with sportshift.
April Fools!
But! I am so glad that so many old friends are still around and so many people on Facebook care about little old Huffer. :)

It starts with one day, but it turns into a week, and now, we are going on a month. It is a slippery slope, indeed.
