Legacy Lowered.

I have a 2000 Subaru Legacy wagon and I want it to be lowered but not slammed. I was wondering if Legacy GT suspension would mount right up or any other suggestions.

As far as I know the only difference between L and GT suspension was spring rates. I lowered my GT on BC Racing coilovers. Right now I have it set pretty low, but even this low, it's a very reasonable daily driver.

Alright. Thanks guys. I thought I could cut cost by throwing a pre-exsisting subi suspension under it but it looks like coilovers are the way.

Or you could just put lowering springs on your existing struts.

Yea, I am not really sure how you determined that Coilovers are the way.. There are lots of other options.

I thought about throwing springs over stock struts but I want to do it the right way. This car is gonna be pretty fast when I'm done and she needs to be able to corner well, but I don't want to feel every freaking bump. Im gonna go with Progressive lowering springs and adjustable shocks. Then Later I am going to fully upgrade and replace the suspension underneath.

Adjustable shocks/struts and lowering springs are a viable option, however since that will lower the car a significant amount, you really should remove the subframe spacers and replace the rear lateral control arms. Otherwise, your car will be riding on the stops in the back, and your suspension angles will be all out of whack.

If its just the springs, you can use it for the front. For the rears, you will need to have the corresponding tophat for it. I think the 02-03 wrx have a tapered springs going up and some have a different tophat.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Outback wagon in your sig. if so, keep in mind that the differences between an Outback and regular legacy suspension go way beyond just springs and shocks. There are spacers in the subframe that basically give the outback a body lift, and alot of other things like control arm mounts, steering column and many other bits and pieces that all have to be swapped.

Sure, people have lowered theirs without bothering with any of that, just throw some shocks and springs on and call it good. Seems to work well enough.
But if you want to do it the "right way" like you said, then a full suspension swap would be it.

Make sure you read the whole thread before starting, there's a few things left out of the original post.
And unless you got a lift and other fancy tools, it really IS a task better left to a properly equipped shop.

Really I just see alot of threads all over then net about lowering Outbacks and people rarely ever mention all the work involved in doing it right.

Meh. Swapping in stock wrx stuff with saggy butt spacers is fine. You will still get a nice drop, a nice rake, get new wheel/tire options, and significantly increased handling. If your gonna go all the way and build this car for performance(aka: engine, performance wheels tires, exhaust) , and your fully committed then consider removing body spacers etc... just by 2 cents

02-07 rex parts will not work for him. He has a 2000 wagon. H&R springs and some AGX adjustables with proper setup will be very good. I LOVED my H&R springs, and have run them on my Galant, Integra, WRX, and Magnum. I was going to get a set for my Legacy, but ended up finding some feal revalved STI struts on RCE Blacks.

Unless you're going to spend some real money on coilovers ($1200+), then i'd just recommend a nice set of replacement struts and some springs. KYB's are surprisingly good for a OEM strut, and handle lowering springs exceptionally well.

As for the body spacers, they are a PITA to remove, but if you want to go lower, thats another viable option as well, and its potentially free.
