ok so i keep hearing this rattling noise im almost sure its from the front end. and it only happens when i apply slightly on the accelerator and it only rattle for a short period of time. ive even had a subaru mechanic ride in the car and listen, and he didnt know what it was. i just had my wheel bearings checked and one replaced. i think it could be one of my differentials. i also hear a slight grinding type noise as well when coasting i have no clue what that could be. its not brake i checked them i was thinking that could be my cv axel. just hoping someone might know whats up.
thanks.

Rattling noise - AC on or off?

Metal/metal = heatshield?

Plastic rattle, could be a loose trim or part of the undershield.

its there ac on or off. could be heat shield. engine was resealed this past year due to oil leak, and the tranny redone. so maybe jsut a loose something. so you think its nothing big and expensive to worry about though? thanks.

Does it happen when you engine brake (ie: let off the gas and let the engine drop down the rev range? Does it only happen at certain RPM's?

My guesses are either a heat shield on the y-pipe or exhaust, or one of the pieces to the intake.

I would say heat shields - same problem on my wifes Outback. Removed them and she was quiet again.
