Nice. I assume your on stock suspension? Since its low km and looks 100%stock and well maintained.
How does it compare to stock L susp. From your last car?

I always thought the suspension in my 99 was a little high but really fun and responsive.
Cars101.com says the GT's get fancy sport suspension.
I've test driven a couple 2nd gen L's (looking for cheap cars) but never tested the suspension out.

i find something kinda fishy with the milage...i wonder what the story is behind it...i know it is very easy to roll back especially when i swapped my cluster on my old car. if its an "out of province" car with no record then def reg flags...but yet again looking at the engine bay and body kinda see 53k being true.

I dunno... that driver's side bolster is pretty crushed... more than I'd expect to see in 53,000 MILES, let alone a mere 53,000KM. I mean, mine were pretty trashed when I got my cars, but they weren't as bad as that, and I had near to 200,000 miles on two of them and 261,000 on the other.

The paint looks awesome, like It should be sitting in a showroom
The antenna looks funny, On my 2nd gens I pulled the carpet back a bit and unplugged the antenna so it wouldn't go up
It made a weird clicking noise when It went up and I hated the look of it.
I did loose radio reception quality as a consequence but I never listened to radio back then anyways

I still love those GT snowflake rims

so i dont have any pictures but, one of my calipers seized so bad , when i was driving and came to a stop my brakes were SMOKING ALOT.. so ran to the parts store and 50 minutes later i had new rotors, pads and a new caliper installed, with the system bleed..I love challenges it happened at 11am and i had to leave by 3pm the same day...i was done by 1:30

That pic is actually beautiful. Yes i slacked hard enough on my G, its going to expire in a few months, i go for the test august 1st so until then the mods just keep piling up.

My G2 was gonna expire 2 days after my scheduled G test. I wasn't very smart leaving it so long.
I went to walkly rd and it was interesting
I sped by 20km/hr twice, rolled a stop sign, stopped halfway through parallel parking to re-adjust so I didn't mangle my sweet BD on those concrete barriers and he said don't bother just keep going so I did. All obviously by accident and he didn't mark me for any of it. I only got marked for 1 hand on the wheel and following too close (I was following another drivers test car that stupidly wouldn't merge onto the parkway) I'm sure he felt he had to put SOMETHING down but I had that second hand on the wheel every moment I wasn't shifting.

I went to Winchester for my G2 and it was super easy going there

Well the time has come, and i had a good weekend. I finished my uel header and installed them!. They have a completely different sound then the ej22 did with the same set up...uel headers and a vibrant muffler..

Total cost for Uel Headers
$10 for scrap yard headers
$30 for pipes/tubes
$15 for flame proof paint

A grand total of $55!!!!!

So throughout this past week I have noticed little oil spots on the ground that smelt like gear oil....Tonight I put the car up on ramps left it for an hour and half and there was some gear oil on my headers. So i cleaned up the diff to see where the leak was coming from..returned an hour and a half later to discover only oil was around the drain plug. For shits a giggles i decided to see how well torqued the drain plug was in..while putting my wrench over the drain plug it MOVED! it seemed to be only finger tight! So i was able to tighten it a good quarter turn..to much relief i am glad it was just that.

So i had a massive fail. i bought a grill from a legacy , modified it and it looks good. What i didn't know is the GT's have a larger grill, then all the other models...It fits and everything but on the bottom there is an 1 3/4" gap on the bottom. Not quite sure what to do to make it fit, Any suggestions?

I'm actually a little surprised you didn't know this. Can we get some pictures of it with the gap? depending on the color of the grille, you could probably just paint the gap black, and hide it some. Alternatively, maybe some kind of foam could be used to fill the gap, if it'll take paint. I had a decent gap on mine after I put the third-gen OB bumper on, but I just ignored it since I'm also missing the fogs and tow hook cover.

well the engine light popped on last week P0440 has come to haunt me yet once again as it did on my old Legacy. This time i took proper steps, i replaced the gas cap and it popped back on, next step is to peel back that plastic guard and check i filler neck that the cars are notorious for.

Well today i finally aligned my headlights!, i was amazed after following a simple DIY how bad mine were... One was point to close tot he middle and the other was pointed too far down..I feel like i can see now lol

On a side note NEVER RUN HIGH WATTAGE LIGHT BULBS ON YOUR STOCK HARNESS.... i thought i was cool running 80w headlights until one stopped working and my high beam indicator was constantly on..it had melted my sockets!

Well today i taught my self a lesson.. 2 days ago i changed my leaky oil pan, everything went fine...except when i started my car, it was running like crap.. i thought i knocked the first o2 sensor hard and probably killed it.. so i ordered a new one, and just as i was ripping out the old one, i noticed my intake popped off my MAF, from when i had to raise then engine off the body...The car wasn't getting a correct airflow reading... Never overlook the simple things as i did.. now hopefully i can return this o2 sensor ;)

Im still used to throwing small purchases on the back seat floor behind my seat from all my years with sedans. 2 doors are cool but I use my back doors ALL the time.

How is the difference snow drifting with the auto vs your old 5spd?
It took some getting used to for me.
You can still do it but it really isn't as easy/fun as manual trans (even when I have mine in sport manual mode)

its not so bad..nothing like the 5 speed , since that was always instant power instead of the ecu thinking about it...I did the power mode so it holds the gear a bit longer, then it would normally which is good for messing around. I just miss the instant power and clutch kicking

Found something good about winter other then drifting..finding exhaust leaks.I noticed mine the other day a very fine crack right where the transmission/exhaust hanger is. Cracked out the welder tonight and it was all fixed..but looks at the rest of my exhaust with the salt attacking it, i get a feeling i will be doing some painting in the summer

i have been getting shitt gas milage for a while and it really started to bug me now
i get about 14mpg all city (Yes i have a car starter but it only idles for 1 minute before i go drive)
-air filter was changed
-oil is changed every 5000km
-tranny fluid was changed like 7000km ago
-spark plugs and wire were supposed changed 50,000km ago wires look new and are firm
-tires are always at correct pressure

To do:
-pcv valve works but i will still change it
-changing out fuel filter
-checking for intake leaks around my hybrid set up

hopefully that solves it

well i swapped out the old pcv valve and fuel filter..
The fuel filter looked OEM and i had a lot of fun getting the hoses off, so i can only assume it was either original or really old.
Same goes for the pcv, it still worked (it clicked) but here was some carbon/sludge looking stuff built up around it..
Hopefully this hopes with my gas Milage.
I also bought some fuel injector cleaner in it with PEA(polyetheramine)

I have been getting about 22 mpg in my 2.2L wagon whether its city or highway driving. Another I was told to look into is the coolant temp sensor for the ECU. I was told if it is malfunctioning it could make the car think its still cooler than it is so it will run more rich. The sensor is near the pcv valve I believe.

It's freshly expanded and paved so no holes, no sewers and its really big

Do you leave your lgt in drive to drift or do you switch into D 1 or 2?
I have sport shift in my 4th gen and find that super helpful to manually select gears for drifting

i got 2 codes,
P0440 , (i have been getting it off and on for a little , its the fuel filler neck)

and P0420 which was to my surprise!
With P0420 that popped up i started to piece puzzles together with my crappy mpg.
I will be doing a temperature test on my cats tonight to see if your good or not and go on from there

Like you said, with the weather as bitchin cold as it is heated seats are the best
I often use them in the summer on low just for my drive into work when its still a little cooler out

I get my leds off ebay with the resistors to bring them down to 3.2v..
I also need to do my hvac because zero of the lights work. because the led with resistors are too long for the hvac i can't put my leds in there :( BUT! i did find this after i bought all the LED's which i recommend and i will definately be picking some up as well

Haha no I am not. I wash my car about once a week or so now that it's warming up at suds until I can crack out my house...I love detailing, it's really a passion to spend 6 hours or more detailing and seeing the out come..I doubt my car was ever detailed but was garage kept

The real difference was in the stopping distance

When i looked closer, My forester actually has Toyo M+S (mud and snow) tires that I was using as winters
Considering I got a nail in the sidewall of my summers for it I think I'm just going to rock the M+S year round since they have TONS of tread remaining and I assume the "mud" part means they should be fine running in the summer. Noisy but fine...

Yes i used 5mm 15000mcd white LEDS. I used a 470ohm 1/2watt resistor on each LED to bring the 12v's down to around 3.2v.
The led angle was about 20-25 i wish i had wider at the time, but still worked just fine (ordered some 120-140 degree LEDS).

the mod it self cost around 3$ and took me about an hour and a half from start to finish.
10 bright leds =1$
470ohm resistors = 1$
5mm Led Holders = 1$.
I bought it all off ebay

As far as painting the snowflakes, I actually think silver looks the best. Gold would be second, white third. I've never liked black wheels, all the details of the wheels are lost when black, and snowflakes aren't exactly a boring wheel.

I did red LEDs from superbrightleds.com in my wagon's hvac and gauge cluster. I really like it, but one LED in the cluster died after a couple years.

Well the time has come, and i had a good weekend. I finished my uel header and installed them!. They have a completely different sound then the ej22 did with the same set up...uel headers and a vibrant muffler..

Total cost for Uel Headers
$10 for scrap yard headers
$30 for pipes/tubes
$15 for flame proof paint

A grand total of $55!!!!!

Well I have completed my led conversion on my fog light for fun. The whole lamp it self is somewhere are 14w with 54 LEDs..I used 2 different LEDs.one with a wide angle and the other more of a spot light

Well today I fixed my one brake light, I traced it back to the actual socket...got a new one from the scrap yard and the brake light works fine now....
I will ne installing my sway bar tomorrow, also I'm almost done the skid plate just finishing it up

Ummm if I remember correctly it's a m8x1.25 for the rad support holes...yes I keep on contemplating the hole for the oil or not..the rear of it is mounted on the centre jack up plate...I had to put some long bolts they the top since the holes weren't threaded like on imprezas supposedly...I call this version 1 complete lol..I will most likely be modifying it

Coolant doesn't seem murky or does the Oil..no bubbles in the coolant, and i took it for another hour drive with no issues.
1. the previous owner never had the head gaskets changed and the car just hit 180k km or 110k miles

i fearing that it is the start of the head gasket.

That's what I figured...I just changed the coolant about 5-10k km ago so it's all new coolant...the lower rad hose was hot as well , and like I said operated just fine till oabout 40 minutes into the drive....I have been doing more research and I got a bad feeling it is the hg.

I decided to burp the system tons of bubbles came out until it stopped which indicated no head gasket issue. No oil or exhaust on rad cap which confirms it was just air in the system

I am pretty sure when Hinyo and Rubie_25GT had their head gasket issues that they could burp the system due to exhaust gases getting in. I remember Hinyo doing it on the side of the road and we sat there for about 10 mins with bubbles coming out.

Thermostat +1 and rad cap. Spring might be weak sauce. Also check the air bleeder screw on the top of the radiator as the o ring goes bad and for hairline cracks at the upper rad hose on the tank. Mine was split and had venting on super hot days as someone over tightened the upper clam I guess.

When my last GT started overheating I checked under the hood and the rad cap had a tiny pin hole in the very top.
There was slight bubbling up through the pinhole and it didn't look right but I went online and asked if suby rad caps has breather pin holes in them lol

I ended up buying one from Canadian Tire and that did the trick but if I had to do it again I'd buy an OEM one.
I think they are pressure rated specifically and chances are the one I bought wasn't right.

Mine would overheat and spit coolant out the over flow once every couple months but it was random, always on longer drives and would go back down on its own when I would come to a stop. The gauge would rise to the top and stay there for less then a minute but it would feel like forever.

I traded it in not wanting to invest in another HG job and the car was sold by a small dealer that bought it off the suby dealership I traded into. Less then 3 months later the car went back up for sale at the same small dealer with less then 2000 more KM's on it. I figure someone bought it and had the HG's blow almost right away and then returned it to the place they bought it from.

My first GT BD had them go at 163K km (fully blown during hard spirited driving,pouring coolant and rod knocking)
My second GT BD started randomly overheating and spittin coolant at 165K km traded in around 171K(regret not keeping it)

So unfortunately I drove for 3 hours total over 2 days on the highway and it was perfect...I took a short 30 minutes trip and the temp started to raise and I had to pull over....starting to really get down..next I'll change the thermostat and see how that goes

Be careful, I've had a couple EJ25D engines pass a hydrocarbon test but still have blown headgaskets. Sometimes that doesn't tell the whole story.

Yeah, not trying to scare you, just saying its most likely a headgasket. On the last GT I bought, the owner replaced the radiator cap, the thermostat and the water pump in three separate trips to the shop because it kept overheating. After bleeding it would be fine for a few days then act up again. The shop did a HC test two separate times and kept telling him the HGs were fine. I bought it, tore it down and there was an obvious leak between the cylinder and the water jacket. On an EJ25D, 9 times out of 10, and especially at your relative age/mileage, random overheating events combined with coolant loss/air bubble in system but with no visible leak are due to headgaskets. Occasionally I'll see a bad thermostat, but that is far from the norm as long as the stat is a nice OEM one.

I wanna get a price on it and if it's anywhere close to 75$ I'll just by my own off Amazon....if it is the head gaskets I'm really starting to thinking just picking up a new engine and dropping it in would be quicker ,less work and cheaper if I were to do it then rebuild the Ej25d as a back up...maybe pick up a Jdm Ej25 for pretty cheap


EDIT: Burped it again this time the engine was completely cold..More bulbs came out probably the same amount as last time...

One odd thing with my overheating problem , it over heats , goes back down then stay at operating temperature for the rest of the drive even at stop lights and etc.

I just bought the best rockauto had to offer. The felrpo gaskets i bought are mls gaskets though, i read some reviews and they seemed fine now that they are mls

So I may just be crazy, but I had to grind down the bolt to the camshaft cap... the cap received a bit of "damage" but i think i'm just over thinking it..there are a few little dents from the vise grips on the cap and also where I had to grind flat(ground it down as close as possible thing chipped off the remaining of bolt with a flat head....there in no damage on the inner face...I'm assuming this isn't going to cause any harm?

The caps and heads are line bored as a unit, so a little tiny high spot or a little too much filing will make that journal out of round and you'll need a whole new head.

the bottom was sadly me trying to get the dam cap off with a flat head wrapped around rags...the pictures does make it ALOT worse then what it actually is...i would still say its useable.I will take your advice and hit it with a fine file to knock down any high spots.

As for the car it self a little old guy and lady owned the car for its life time..he had never gotten the head gaskets changed and as far as i know only gotten the timing belt and spark plugs changed..But after seeing that one bolt i really wasn't sure.Also notice another camcap bolt was slightly stripped on the intake side on the same head.

I'm kinda beating up my self over this rebuild. Sadly i don't have a lot of time and money left on this...so i'm just praying everything else goes well..

I'm currently cleaning up the heads and block. I think i will be doing the sanding method of 220,400,600 grit... i have already went to town on it wil acetone and a plastic card and a razor..Any other recommendations?

I'd stick with the razor blade. I hate ruining the factory finish. It's supposed to be a specific RA. It doesn't need to look perfectly clean, just needs to be smooth to the touch and not warped.

Also noticed tonight that camshaft seals on that head are black vs the brown on the other head..someone was definitely in there.. Heads aren't warped and I cleaned them up tonight. I'm praying to the Subaru gods that that the cam cap is fine

ya man it definitely killed my night , it explains a couple things like why i couldn't get the bolt out for the life of me. also the other slightly rounded cam cap bolt. I'm praying that when the rebuild is done the cam or cap doesn't destroy itself...I'm probably over thinking it. Tonight i will be installing the head gaskets and what not

yup following the fsm to the tee...i got the right side of the engine all complete..just need to do the left tonight(the messed up bolt side)

I did that night and it did nothing.. bolt was too mangled plus some monkey definitely didn't torque it to 14ft/lbs

I started up the legacy yesterday night..I do have an engine light i need to scan, but it does run smooth. and also I had a constant drip of oil from left side head(the monkey mechanics head) near the valve cover region/ cam cap when engine is running. i'm hoping i just need to tighten valve cover bolts a little

Today, i did the grounding mod. I heard lots of back and forth on this subject. But i figured , car is from 1998. i'm sure the ground are aged and etc etc.

Took me like 1 hour to make a up a 8awg ground cable that connects to the heads,alternator, and intake..

Very first impression when i first started the car was the headlight/fog lights were brighter! not just slightly but very noticeable. I will comment more on the drive tomorrow.

Also to add I will be finishing the "Big 3" mod by purchasing a 0 gauge cable to run from the positive on the battery to the alternator.

ALSO, i picked up a good OEM dodge neon coil pack and will be installing that in the times coming.

Well today I replaced all my exhaust studs on the exhaust side of my engine . It got rid of the small exhausts leaks I was having ... I also noticed I weird sound and noted the bolt on my ac tensioner pulley was gone!!!! And it was just braising the timing belt cover...so happy I caught it early

This car has been nothing but bad luck so far....

I was backing into my garage when suddenly my brake pedal went to the floor. My right rear brake line was corroded and shooting out fluid..

So I decied I will just add a union inside the car and fix it my self and run a new line..while moving the brake lines a bit the left rear line snapped because of corrosion... So I'm running to new rear brake lines now... I have been practicing my double flare technique lol

I had the same thing but I shovelled a path 10 feet in front of the forester to get momentum and then just gunned it through till I got out of the parking lot

My rims are still all jammed up full of snow. Suprizingly no shaking at 100km/h

Haven't updated here in awhile.
Over the weekend i went camping about 2 hours away from home. On the way back it started to DOWN pour for like a constant 1 hour. Car started to buck here and there, then all hell broke loose, with hesitating, misfiring, bucking..Luckily i just got back into cell phone reception and had it towed 1 1/2 hours back home.
Threw code PO 102 along with 301,302(misfires). I tried to clean the the MAF but it was dead :( I found some water in my intake box, air filter bottom half was soaked and some water in the maf housing(no idea how that got in). So i went with my gut feeling and bought a new MAF and the leggy was all fixed.

Also not sure if it in my head or not but it feels more peppy with the new MAF.
